Wisconsin's four Republican candidates for U.S. Senate debated Friday for the final time before the primaries Tuesday, discussing jobs, the war in Iraq and health care, according to The Capital Times.
Russ Darrow, Robert Lorge, Tim Michels and state Sen. Bob Welch, R-Town of Marion, said they oppose government effort to provide health care to the approximately 43 million Americans who are without it.
\Let's look at how many earn over $50,000 a year and they've just decided not to [insure themselves]. I've got a lot of employees in my company who ... would rather buy a car,"" Darrow said.
Michels advocated buying prescription drugs from Canada, whereas Welch criticized the idea, saying the United States does not ""really know where [the drugs] are coming from.""
Darrow said Congress should develop a prescription drug plan that does not discriminate against Americans by charging higher prices.
One thing common among Michels, Welch and Darrow was their criticism of Feingold's lone vote cast in the Senate against the Patriot Act.
""Patriot Act, good. Homeland Security, good. Russ Feingold, against both,"" Welch said.
Yet, Lorge said Feingold should have gone further in his opposition of the act, saying it needs to be revised to restore civil liberties.
All four candidates supported President Bush's decision to invade Iraq.
