Chancellor Wiley appointed a 17-member search committee Tuesday to replace Dean Phillip Certain, the dean of the College of Letters and Science, which enrolls a majority of UW-Madison students.
Before taking management of L&S, Certain earned his doctoral degree in theoretical chemistry from UW-Madison where he chaired the chemistry department and served as an associate vice chancellor of academic affairs.
Certain has also worked in the community on the board for the Overture Center and served on the city's Task Force on Race Relations.
Committee members comprise departments across the college, as well as a pair of students and a member of the medical school.
Certain announced in January he would retire from the position effective June 30.
