With Valentine's Day right around the corner, what better way to get in the loving mood than to hear what your favorite UW spring athletes have to say about their plans, dream dates, worst dates and anything else that comes to mind when given the chance to speak.
Plans for Valentine's Day
Senior forward for the women's hockey team, Meghan Hunter: \I'm actually playing hockey on Valentine's Day.""
Junior guard for the men's basketball team, Devin Harris: ""We have a game. First thing is to take care of that. After that, we'll see. So, nothing really planned right now; the game is the most important.""
Junior guard for the men's basketball team, Clayton Hanson: ""It's still in the mix. I'm trying. Going to make a couple phone calls, but I'm trying to swing a double date with me and Zach [Morley]. If it all works out, it could be pretty great.""
Senior defenseman for the men's hockey team, Dan Boeser: ""I don't know but I better come up with something, or my fianc?? will have my neck!""
Senior wrestler (No. 13 at 174 pounds), Ralph DeNisco: ""Going to Qdoba with Ed Gutnik. Yup, I'm going to Qdoba with Ed Gutnik.""
Freshman forward for the men's hockey team, Ross Carlson: ""I'm just going to sit in my dorm room all day and night. I'm the old guy in the dorms, so I have to set the good example.""
Dream Dates
Hunter: ""Dinner with candle light, walk on the beach and then maybe a little pickup hockey at the end.""
Senior forward for the women's hockey team, Steph Millar: ""Well, I would be on an island-somewhere warm. I don't think I would be in Madison and laying on the beach sipping some cold beverages and just chatting.""
Harris: ""I've always wanted to go to France, so probably pick up a nice girl, take her to France, do a little shopping and just hang out with the French people.""
Hanson: ""Some day, when I'm really doing well, I'm going to charter a plane-she won't know-and pick her up. Tell her to grab whatever clothes, grab a bag and we'll fly somewhere, somewhere sweet.""
Junior forward for the men's basketball team, Mike Wilkinson: ""Well, I have my fianc?? now, so I'm pretty much set.""
Sophomore center for the men's hockey team, A.J. Degenhardt: ""Mandy Moore.""
Junior wrestler (141 lbs.), Tyler Laudon: ""Any girl? Simple. J-Lo, and she's available.""
DeNisco: ""My dream date, my dream date, I guess, beating Iowa.""
Worst Valentine's Day date
Harris: ""I think in sixth grade, I didn't get a single valentine from anybody. It was sad.""
Sophomore forward for the men's basketball team, Ray Nixon: ""I actually broke up with a really great girl on Valentine's Day a couple years ago. That one hurt.""
Hanson: ""Back in grade school, where you have the girlfriend, but you have to ask your parents for money. Well, I asked my parents for money, and on top of that, going to the florist for the first time is the worst. You just tell them to pick out whatever looks good with your head down. Guys know. But worse than that is filling out the card. Filling out the card has got to be the worst because I never know what to say.""
General Valentine's Day thoughts
Carlson: ""Ken Rowe kills the ladies ... he just shoots 'em down with his arrow.""
Degenhardt: ""Well, either one of us probably (when asked who had better luck with women) or maybe Burish ... he's got his Canadian lover coming down.""
Hanson: ""I don't know about the other guys and their plans ... but Dave [Mader], he's married.""
Harris: ""Roses usually do the trick for girls. They dig candy as well. Be sweet and nice and just treat them like a princess. That's what I try to do.""
