Campus buildings to see construction this semester

In addition to the recently-released several hundred-million-dollar campus renovation plan, other locations will soon see construction.

Planning for expansion of the emergency department and a relocation of the Med-Flight helipad from the west end to the roof of the UW Hospital is underway. The building is slated for changes this spring, according to a press release.

Additionally, 32 more energy- efficient greenhouses will take the place of the 31 greenhouses already at Walnut St.. The project will start in March and end in summer 2005.

A new water supply line will transport water from Lake Mendota to the West Campus Cogeneration Facility, currently under construction. Much of the area between the Limnology Lab and Willow Creek will close until June, the release said.

A new microbial sciences building will replace E.B. Fred Hall and house a parking garage, laboratories, a symposium center and offices. The construction will not reach completion until early 2007.

The Mechanical Engineering Building will also see new mechanical, electrical and plumbing amenities with changes starting in May and ending in fall 2005. When these features are in place, a three-story addition will be added to the building.

Finally, the Lot 76 parking ramp on University Bay Drive will be expanded in June.
