UW football player arrested

UW-Madison freshman wide receiver Ernest Mason was charged with disorderly conduct, intimidating the victim and dissuading the reporting of a violent incident with his girlfriend on the ninth floor of Sellery Hall Tuesday night.

The altercation began in Mason's girlfriend's room, UW-Madison freshman Idorenyin Udoisa, where she confronted Mason about cheating on her, according to Udoisa's account in the criminal complaint.

\You're a stupidass bitch. I don't need you,"" Mason responded, the account said.

When Udoisa told Mason to leave, he pushed her forehead, causing her to hit her head against a wall.

""I'll fucking kill you,"" he yelled while pushing her, the account said.

At that, Udoisa took Mason's keys and ran down the hall. Mason reportedly followed her, pushed her into the trash room, went inside and closed the door. Mason kept Udoisa in the room for five minutes by blocking the door.

When she threatened to throw his keys down the trash chute, he let her out. She then threw Mason's keys down a stairwell and ran downstairs. He followed and pushed her against the stairwell wall and she again hit her head, the account stated.

When she started crying he allegedly demanded she stop and yelled ""Don't be a bitch,"" before pushing her down a few stairs.

Mason retrieved his keys and commanded Udoisa to go to his room in Ogg East Tower. When they arrived, Mason threw pillows at Udoisa and both kicked each other, the complaint said.

Mason agreed to take Udoisa back to her room, but between Ogg Hall and Gordon Commons he allegedly grabbed her hand and squeezed it until her thumb cracked.

Back in her room, Mason again shoved Udoisa into a wall and she then headed for an elevator, according to the complaint.

When the elevator arrived, Mason reportedly pushed her in and she fell to the floor, yelling to House Fellow Becky Owens for help. According to police officer Ruth Ellestad's description of Owens' account, Owens tried to help Udoisa but but Mason blocked the door until it closed.

The two took the elevator to the first floor and back, while Owens called other house fellows to the floor. When Udoisa and Mason arrived on the ninth floor, Udoisa told a house fellow to call the police.

Udoisa said that Mason warned, ""If you call the cops, I'm gonna get your ass,"" before he left the scene.

UW Police soon arrived on the scene.

Police Officer Marshall Ogren said in the criminal complaint Mason confessed to physically fighting with Udoisa, pushing her to the elevator floor and hurting her hand.

For his violent behavior, Mason may receive fines up to $1,000 and jail time up to 90 days. For ""knowingly and maliciously"" dissuading Udoisa from reporting to law enforcement, he may receive up to $10,000 in fines and up to nine months jail time.

Lieutenant Karen Solely of the UW Police Department refused to release the police report.

Paul Evans, director of university housing, said it is too early to determine repercussions for Mason and dorm safety measures.
