The USS Greeneville, the U.S. nuclear-powered submarine that accidentally sunk a Japanese fishing vessel last February, collided Monday with another U.S. vessel in the Arabian Sea, 24 km off the coast of Oman.
There were no injuries and neither craft was in danger of sinking, although a fuel tank on the Navy warship, The Ogden, was punctured, leading to several thousand liters of fuel leaking into the sea. According to Pentagon spokesperson Victoria Clarke, the leak will not have a significant environmental impact.
The incident is currently under investigation, although no indication of the cause is known.
