The Daily Cardinal grabs a hockey stick, laces up its skates and fires some questions at men's hockey goaltender Scott Kabotoff.
Kabotoff, a junior from Sherwood Park, Alberta, had a personal-best 43 saves against the University of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs last weekend and leads the Western Collegiate Hockey Association with an impressive 350 saves this season.
So, were you the kid that volunteered to play goalie because no one else wanted to?
I started to play goalie because my brother was older and he needed someone to shoot on.
Why did you stick with it?
It comes naturally to me. It's something I like to do. It's fun. I'm better at goalie than I am at forward.
What's it like playing after goalkeeper Graham Melanson?
It's different than when I played the last two years. I'm still trying to fill his shoes. He's such a good goalie that it can be tough.
Was he a good teacher?
Yeah. He taught me a lot during the two years that I played with him, and then over the summer he taught me a lot of little things that he couldn't let me know before, but has let me know afterwards.
To who or what do you attribute your success?
[Assistant] Coach Bill Howard. He's worked so hard with me over the summer and put up with some of the things that I do and try to turn them around and make me into a better goalie. That and working hard.

I thought so. What are your thoughts on Coach Sauer?
