UW-Madison has received a $1.5 million grant to create a center for chemical genomics research.
The W.M. Keck Foundation made the grant for the creation of the Keck Center for Chemical Genomics. Chemical genomics is an emerging field of research that combines chemistry and molecular biology.
The center's research will focus on exploring the interactions and functions of proteins and other molecules that form the building blocks of all living things.
The new center will include several different sites. A research facility will be located in the Chemistry Building, and a screening facility will be placed in the Biotechnology Center. UW-Madison scientists representing several departments and biotechnology disciplines will utilize the two facilities.
The Keck Foundation is a Los Angeles-based private foundation that supports a variety of science, medical research and higher education programs.
Two other Keck Foundation-supported research centers operate at UW-Madison: the Keck Neural Imaging Center and the Laboratory for Functional Brain Imaging and Behavior.
