Badger Bits

 

 

On Saturday night, the Athletics Department will be honoring Dick Bennett prior to the Badgers' game vs. Penn State. Fans are encouraged to be seated by 6:50 p.m. The ceremony will follow shortly thereafter. Tip-off is set for 7:07 p.m. 

 

 

 

 

 

Badgerball continued its winning ways last night in defeating Illinois 73-65. Forward LaTonya Sims and guard Tamara Moore each had 17 points to pace the Badgers.

The Illini were led by a pair of freshman. Iveta Marcauskaite had 16 points, while Anne O'Neil pitched in 12 points in a losing effort. 

 

 

 

The Badgers (12-6, 6-2) next play sixth ranked Purdue in West Lafayette. 

 

 

 

In other Badgerball news, Jessee Stomski garnered Big Ten Player of the Week honors. The junior forward earned the honors by collecting double-doubles in both games, averaging 21.5 and 10.5 rebounds per contest. This is the first Badger to be given this honor this season. 

 

 

 

 

 

The 13th-ranked University of Wisconsin women's swimming and diving team (4-0 overall, 3-0 Big Ten) puts its undefeated record to the test when it hosts 20th-ranked Minnesota, Purdue and Illinois in the Big Ten Quad Duals Friday and Saturday at the UW Natatorium. This is the first home action of the season for the Badger women. 

 

 

 

The 21st-ranked men are also in action this weekend, hosting 16th-ranked Minnesota and 19th-ranked Purdue. 

 

 

 

Diving begins at 3 p.m. Friday with swimming events starting at 6 p.m. Saturday diving begins at 10 a.m., with swimming starting at noon. Admission is free. 

 

 

 

 

 

The Wisconsin men's and women's track and field teams are set to host their second and final indoor meets of the season when they host Arizona, Illinois State and a number of other elite-level unattached athletes in the Wisconsin Elite Invitational.  

 

 

 

The event will be held in the Camp Randall Memorial Sports Center (Shell). Field events start at 11 a.m., and running events begin at noon. 

 

 

 

 

 

The Badger men are (0-1) after losing to 33rd-ranked Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. The lone highlight for Wisconsin in the match was in the No. 6 singles spot where freshman Dustin Taylor defeated Notre Dame's Brian Farrell in a third-set tie-breaker. Wisconsin continues its homestand this Friday against the Northern Illinois Huskies.
