UWPD publishes list of equipment following request from ASM

UW-Madison Police Department responded to an Associated Students of Madison resolution asking UWPD to be transparent about the equipment they own, and will own, by launching a website Thursday.

The website lists each piece of equipment UWPD owns, including weapons found on the Prohibited or Controlled Equipment List of federal Executive Order 13688.

The resolution was introduced by Student Council on Sept. 7. It requested that the expectations be met by Sept. 30.

According to UWPD spokesperson Marc Lovicott, they met with ASM representatives to get an idea of what they were looking for. They decided to create the webpage, which he said the representatives are happy with.

“UWPD has always been transparent,” Lovicott said. “We've always been open to groups or individuals that want to learn more about us and what we do and the equipment we have, and I think this is an extension of that.”
