UW-Madison Chancellor Rebecca Blank is poised to begin a committee this fall that will share information with and seek insight from various leaders in the community regarding diversity and inclusion.
The Community Advisory Committee, which will first meet in September, is one of several initiatives Blank and other university leaders have prepared to promote diversity and inclusion throughout campus.
After a spring semester plagued by incidents of hate and bias, Blank said the committee will review how diversity and inclusion are talked about on campus, the ways in which groups interact regarding those issues and what can be done differently to improve campus climate.
Though the full committee list has not yet been released, UW-Madison spokesperson Meredith McGlone said current participants include Ald. Shiva Bidar-Sielaf, District 5, and Mayra Medrano, president of the Latino Chamber of Commerce of Dane County.
It is expected to be announced at a later date whether the committee’s meetings will be open to the public.
