The No. 2 Wisconsin Badgers (4-2-0 WCHA, 4-2-0 overall) will host the Lindenwood Lady Lions (0-0-0 CHA, 0-7-1 overall) in what will be the Badgers’ first non-conference series of the season.
During the Wisconsin volleyball team’s recent home stand the Badgers beat two top-10 teams in a row for the first time in program history, knocking down then-No. 5 Michigan State Sunday and No. 7 Minnesota Wednesday. While their match against Illinois (4-5 Big Ten, 8-11 overall) won’t feature another top foe, the Badgers still look to play at a high level.
Facing their in-state rivals, the University of Wisconsin men’s soccer team (1-2-0 Big Ten, 9-3-2 overall) tied the Milwaukee Panthers (3-2-0 Horizon League, 10-2-2) 1-1 (2OT).
The University of Wisconsin-Madison has long been defined by its superior athletic teams, but one of its best up-and-coming sports may be one few people are even aware exists. With its fast-paced gameplay and players’ intense commitment, ultimate is a UW-Madison sport on the rise.
Saturday marks the dawning of the new era. Although the game remains the same, The Daily Cardinal will face its newly devamped opponent for a bloodbath on the fields of Vilas Park.
The Wisconsin men’s cross country team took fourth place at the 2013 Wisconsin adidas Invitational last Saturday against a tough field that included 19 of the top 30 programs in the nation.
For the first time since 2007, the Wisconsin volleyball team took down No. 7 Minnesota 18-25, 25-21, 25-20 and 25-20 last night at the UW Fieldhouse. The Badgers (6-3 Big Ten, 17-4 overall) have surpassed their conference win total from 2012.
The BCS standings were released Sunday with the same fanfare and controversy we’ve come to expect. Complete turmoil and upheaval have rocked the standings for the past two weeks.
Bye weeks are typically a good chance to improve a team’s quirks or setbacks midseason. It is also a chance for a team to get some extra time to prepare for upcoming opponents. As far as improvements go, the Badgers’ offense might just need to watch last week’s game film and repeat.
Last Thursday redshirt junior kicker Kyle French announced via Facebook that he will retire from football after this season, ending his career as a Badger a year short. The full post reads:
Women’s Hockey
The Wisconsin men’s soccer team (1-2-0 Big Ten, 9-3-1 overall) continued conference play Sunday, where they fell to Michigan (2-2-0, 6-4-3) in Ann Arbor.
The Wisconsin Women’s soccer team (4-3-1 Big Ten, 9-4-2 overall) took down conference foe Iowa (3-4-1, 11-4-1) in a physical match at the McClimon Soccer Complex Sunday afternoon.
After being swept by No. 16 Michigan at home on Friday night, the Badger volleyball team was looking to bounce back against No. 5 Michigan State on Sunday.
Third time’s the charm on the road for Gary Andersen and his Badgers (3-1 Big Ten, 5-2 overall). After losing two close road games earlier in the year to Arizona State and No. 4 Ohio State, No. 22 Wisconsin earned its first road win of the season by routing Illinois (0-2, 3-3) 56-32 in Champaign, Ill.
It was a tough weekend in Boston for the No. 2 Wisconsin Badgers (2-2-0 overall), who were handed two decisive losses by No. 7 Boston College (2-1-0) and No. 15 Boston University (3-1-0) in the team’s first road trip of the season.
The No. 4 Wisconsin women’s hockey team (4-2-0 WCHA, 4-2-0 overall) completed a weekend sweep over conference opponent St. Cloud State (0-3-1, 0-4-2) in a dominating 6-0 win Saturday afternoon at LaBahn Arena.
Wisconsin’s volleyball team fell to No. 16 Michigan on Friday’s match at the UW Fieldhouse. The Wolverines swept the Badgers 28-26, 25-20, and 25-21, dropping Wisconsin (15-4 overall, 4-3 Big Ten) to fifth place in the conference and tied with Northwestern.
Coming off of two losses against No. 1 Minnesota, the No. 4 Wisconsin Badgers (1-2-0 WCHA, 3-2-0 overall)were able to get back to their winning ways when they defeated St. Cloud State(0-2-1, 0-3-2), 4-1, on Friday night, in a physical game that featured 15 penalties between the two teams.
