In the wake of the climate report issued by the federal government last week, Dane County Executive Joe Parisi said the county’s work on renewable energy usage could be the model for the rest of the country’s fight against climate change. The Trump Administration released the Fourth National Climate Assessment, which warns of dire consequences if the U.S. does nothing to curb the effects of climate change, on Black Friday, ahead of its scheduled December release date.

The Baraboo School District will not punish students involved in a viral Nazi salute photo, citing lack of evidence of anti-Semitic intent.

Baraboo students will not be punished for Nazi salute photo

A group of Baraboo High School students who appeared to give a Nazi salute in a viral photo last week will not be punished for their actions, the school district said. In a letter sent to parents Wednesday, Baraboo School District Administrator Lori Mueller said the students were protected from punishment by free speech.

Middleton High School students walked out at the beginning of the school day Monday to protest the administration’s inaction against a student some claim has been sexually harassing them for years.

Over a hundred Middleton High School students staged a protest Monday morning against the school’s administration for their inaction against a student who has been accused of sexually harassing girls for years. Over the weekend, MHS student Ozzy Benitez compiled dozens of anonymous accusations against a student at the school who has allegedly been harassing girls since they were in middle school.

Middleton police searched an entire apartment complex Saturday after two boys, ages 12 and 13, prank called them about a hostage situation.

The Middleton Police Department was forced to search an entire apartment complex Saturday after receiving a tip about a hostage situation they later discovered was a prank call made by two middle schoolers. Police received a phone call Saturday night from an individual who claimed they were being held hostage in the complex by an armed suspect.

Man bangs head on police car following arrest on State Street, MPD says

An 18-year-old man banged his head on a police car after being arrested on State Street Wednesday afternoon, according to a Madison police incident report. The suspect, who had a warrant out for his arrest in Rock County for possession of drug paraphernalia, was spotted on State Street by a police officer who knew him from previous encounters.

Baraboo schools and police are still investigating a controversial photo of high school students taken at prom last semester, as well as threats that have been made against members of the community.

Baraboo schools, police continue to address problems in wake of controversial photo

The Baraboo police department announced Thursday they are looking into threats made against members of the community after a widely-shared photo arose on social media earlier this week featuring Baraboo High School students giving what appears to be a Nazi salute. Threats were made through email and phone calls against several members of the Baraboo community, according to police chief Mark Schauf.

Madison’s city council will vote Tuesday to adopt the 2019 capital and operating budgets proposed by Mayor Paul Soglin.

City council prepares to approve 2019 budget

Following months of planning and drafting, Madison’s city council will vote Tuesday to adopt the capital and operating budgets for 2019. The capital budget — funded mostly by borrowing and grants from the federal and state governments — provides for city projects, improvements, and maintenance.

Women’s March, other local advocacy groups protest Trump’s attorney general appointment

In response to Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ resignation at the request of President Trump, hundreds of Madison residents concerned with the protection of Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation rallied on the steps of the Wisconsin State Capitol Thursday evening. Sessions, who had recused himself from overseeing Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into the Trump campaign’s collusion with Russia, resigned as Attorney General Wednesday, with his Chief of Staff Matthew Whitaker replacing him.
