An attempted strong-arm robbery and battery occurred near Memorial Library late Saturday night, according to a UW-Madison Crime Warning issued early Sunday morning. The warning stated that an officer was driving through the area when they were flagged down by the victim.

UW-Madison graduate and pioneering civil rights leader Vel Phillips passed away Tuesday at age 94, the university announced Wednesday. Phillips was the first black woman to earn a degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School back in 1951.
