While Big Ten Conference schools all provide nearly identical
health services for no additional fees, some UW-Madison and other
Big Ten students said they harbored concerns about their health
services' competency levels and adherences to confidentiality.

This week marks the seventh consecutive week that the Wisconsin
Badgers (13-1-2 Western Collegiate Hockey Association, 18-2-2
overall) have held the No. 1 ranking in collegiate hockey. For
most, a No. 1 ranking serves as a target, especially when
two-time-defending national champions, Denver University (9-5-2
WCHA, 12-10-2) comes knocking at the door looking to snag an
upset.

If there's one thing the world of literature suffers from, it's
a lack of excitement when something happens. Unlike movie previews
for 'Star Wars,' which are often more exciting than the actual
film, or video games like 'Halo 2' that gamers order weeks in
advance, books just don't command much public interest when they
come out.

Wisconsin landscape while honoring Gaylord Nelson.

Originally, Paramount Pictures wanted Ashton Kutcher to star in
writer/director Cameron Crowe's latest, \Elizabethtown."" Crowe
conceded and cast him, only to fire him, citing his lack of acting
ability (or, as Kutcher's people put it, ""scheduling conflicts"")
as the reason for dismissal. However, when Kutcher got the boot, he
actually benefited by avoiding being in ""Elizabethtown,"" which
represents a rare misstep in Crowe's filmography.

This week, I wanted to write my column on hockey. Any sort of
hockey. Pro, NCAA, Pee Wee-any of these would have worked. Any
decent column (so I'm told) needs a catchy intro, however. So here
we go.

When you think Wisconsin fullbacks, you think Alan Ameche. Or at
least you should. But over the past three years senior fullback
Matt Bernstein has become an immensely popular player for the
Badgers. His enormous frame earns his bruising runs between the
tackles in short-yardage situations and the occasional graceful
hurdle (think Shaq doing a pirouette; doesn't seem possible, but
it's a pleasant surprise).

The Teaching Assistants Association held its first meeting of
the year Tuesday night to discuss several issues including its
battle with the state Legislature over a contract negotiation that
has been locked in a stalemate for three years.

In an effort to provide financial equality for UW-Madison
students from low to moderate income homes, state Reps. Joe Parisi,
D-Madison, and Spencer Black, D-Madison, met with students on
Library Mall Wednesday about their new legislative bill requiring
the state to match financial aid to tuition increases.

With the approval of the City of New York, deconstructivist
architects Daniel Libeskind and David Childs are set to construct a
9/11 memorial. This memorial, the Freedom Tower, will be 1,776 feet
of spiked glass surrounded by a half moon of slanted, dwarf
skyscrapers. In all, a poor fit in New York's skyline. Even Donald
Trump, whose tastes encompass the tasteless Trump Taj Mahal and
Trump toupee, thinks the plan is a \pile of crap architecture.""
The Donald has a point. Regardless of one's taste, there are two
basic questions here: What exactly is New York, and by extension
the nation, memorializing? And what does a real monument look
like?

Every year at the Mifflin Street Block Party, residents' items
are stolen and their property is damaged because they are not able
to control who enters their house. Even if nothing is stolen or
damaged, a rowdy crowd can attract police attention and result in a
fine for house occupants for selling alcohol without a license.
Many blame the wild atmosphere and occasional disorderly conduct on
people who are not actually UW-Madison students.

Ask a typical college student what his or her favorite show is
and many will reply with two letters: \OC"" While groups of
students flock to their TVs each week to watch it, FOX often has to
fight to compete against networks with more mature
audiences.

By simply glancing at the long lines outside of some of
Madison's popular bars each Friday afternoon, it would be difficult
to believe \Friday After Class"" was almost never implemented at
all.

Not all adaptations are necessarily a good idea. Whether it be
TV shows, comic books or, in the case of \Diary of a Mad Black
Woman,"" theater productions, some concepts just do not play on the
movie screen nearly as well as they do in their original medium.
Tyler Perry's original play was quite successful, but the film
version is a complete mess-and by the looks of things, the blame
can be primarily laid on Perry's shoulders.

Selma, Ala. to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Right to Vote
and the Bridge Crossing Jubilee.

They are a rare breed who love the complex process of thesis
development, the endless variety of sentence structure and the art
of the perfect transition. Their majors range anywhere from
psychology to women's studies. They feel no student should conquer
writer's block alone, and their lust for writing has put drive and
passion back in UW students' pens. They are the writing fellows.
