It only took six dives for freshman Kevin Pomeroy to cement his spot as a significant contributor on the Wisconsin swimming and diving team. The native of Half Moon Bay, Calif., posted an NCAA-qualifying score of 336.30 on the men’s three-meter diving event, winning the event for the Badgers in a tough dual meet against national power Auburn at home.

The Wisconsin swimming and diving team has hired Canadian Olympian Jake Tapp as an assistant coach. Tapp, who was formerly an assistant at the University of New Mexico, replaces Dan Schemmel, who left after taking a head coaching position at the University of Hawaii early this summer.

After taking down South Dakota State 1-0 in double overtime last week Friday, the Badgers traveled to Loyola on Saturday and shut out the Ramblers 2-0.

At its last home game, Wisconsin’s (2-2-3) head coach Paula Wilkins said that her team needed to find a way to win. On Friday night with six minutes left in the second overtime, they did just that, with a 1-0 victory over South Dakota State (2-4-1) in the first game of the PAC the MAC doubleheader.

Head coach Paula Wilkins and her young Wisconsin (1-1-2) team are headed west this weekend to take on No. 2 Stanford (3-0-0) on Thursday and No. 22 Santa Clara (2-2-0) on Sunday. The two games will be the Badgers’ first chance to take on ranked opponents this season and should come as a welcome challenge.
