Members of the Madison Police Department, city officials and
various university departments met Tuesday to discuss the current
handling of alcohol-related problems on and around campus. They
also discussed changes in policy to be implemented before this
Halloween.

The Teaching Assistants' Association presented a new proposal to
state representatives Tuesday that would require TAs to pay one
dollar per month for health insurance if the state provides a 5
percent pay increase. Karen Timberlake, director of the Office of
State Employment Relations, said the state will not accept this
offer.

student bus passes for next year, UW-Madison officials say they are
working to ensure that students will receive bus pass service next
year.

During the 2002-'03 academic year, the university required
UW-Madison international students to pay $50 per semester to
support the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System, a
tracking service required by the USA Patriot Act. This year, the
university funded the fee on a temporary basis. University
officials have decided to continue funding SEVIS, according to Vice
Chancellor for Student Affairs Paul Barrows.
