The Reader,"" directed by Stephen Daldry (""The Hours"") and
starring Kate Winslet and Ralph Fiennes, was one of this season's
biggest question marks at the Oscar nominations. Although Winslet's
performance makes her a frontrunner for the year's best actress
award, a general outcry resulted from the film's best picture
nomination, a slot many feel should have gone to ""Revolutionary
Road,"" ""Wall-E"" or ""The Dark Knight."" The complaint: The
Academy once again fell for the Oscar-baiting Holocaust
film.

Human has to come to terms with their own mortality, but for
those diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), that
existential dilemma becomes terrifyingly real. ALS is a
degenerative neural disorder that attacks motor neurons and the
ability to control muscles throughout the body. Few diagnosed with
ALS, or Lou Gehrig's disease, live five years past the onset of
initial symptoms. With no definitive cure or even a good
understanding of what causes the disease, the diagnosed and their
loved ones endure dead-end doctor visits, hopes for remedies and

Out on the town a couple weeks ago, I got a campaign call from a
candidate who really wanted to revolutionize the system. Intrigued
by his position, I went to his website, where he offered me these
words: The people need change, they want change, they demand change
- and we're going to give them change!"" Though there are many who
would rather see a certain other candidate elected, he's got my
vote. I believe in Harvey Dent, the front-running candidate for
Gotham City district attorney.

Rather than waste space describing the tragedy that is Will
Ferrell's newest sports comedy Semi-Pro,"" this review will be a

Somewhere around these parts last week was an individual wearing
