It goes without saying that Wisconsin’s offensive line is a main proponent of the success of redshirt sophomore quarterback Alex Hornibrook as well as freshman running back Jonathan Taylor — but still, despite the offensive line being their springboard, Jonathan Taylor has been the Badger’s most valuable player over the last three weeks. The Badgers have started off the year strong with blowout wins over Utah State, Florida Atlantic and most recently BYU. Both Hornibrook and Taylor have demonstrated spectacular performances in these last three games, but it is Taylor’s performances that have been most surprising and prolific.

Northwestern’s non-conference season was chock full of inconsistencies. In a 41-17 loss to Duke, senior running back Justin Jackson averaged only 2.6 yards-per-carry, finishing the game with only 18 yards on the ground. One week later, against Bowling Green, he ran for 121 yards and three scores. Junior quarterback Clayton Thorson similarly struggled against the Blue Devils, completing only 38 percent of his passes and throwing two interceptions and no touchdowns. One week later, he threw for almost 400 yards and two scores.

The Wisconsin Badgers (0-0 Big Ten, 3-0 Overall) haven’t allowed a single point in the second half of any game this season. That’s not to say they start slow defensively, but clearly halftime adjustments have been critical to shutting teams out for the game’s final 30 minutes.

Who would have ever thought that the President of the United States and the National Football League would be butting heads. It’s absolutely incredible what has happened in sports this past weekend. You scroll through Twitter seeing endless videos of football players, coaches and general managers joining in on the #TakeAKnee movement. Are they wrong? Or are they right?

Game days generally unify the state of Wisconsin behind the Green Bay Packers. But this past Sunday, football divided state legislators along party lines.

To the untrained eye, there is a considerable lacuna between Wisconsin football’s on-field success and its recruiting achievements. While many of its peers atop the college football heap — and even various schools that haven’t come close to equaling its consistently impressive year-to-year performance — continue to compile recruiting classes chock-full of four and five-star recruits, the Badgers have continued to plod along, gladly focusing on in-star talent and unheralded prospects whom many other traditional powers overlook.

After the early 34-14 Wisconsin win against FAU last weekend, my plan was to rest up to prepare myself for the incredible slate of night games. Then, when I flipped on my TV to ESPN2, I saw Iowa and Iowa State locked in a thrilling shootout that went until overtime.

Take one look at the BYU (1-2) roster, and you’ll notice something slightly different than most other schools. While the Cougars’ website lists all the usual statistics of a student-athlete such as height, weight, position, eligibility and hometown, there is a column on the far right side of their roster page listing “roster seasons” as well. With some players having been on BYU’s roster as early as 2011, one has to wonder about the program’s unique situation pertaining to the return of missionary athletes and its affects on their play.

Growing up as a kid in the D.C. area, Wisconsin football was a program in my periphery. Unlike a majority of current UW cohorts, Badger football wasn’t part of a weekly routine for me, nor was I constantly aware of their year-to-year roster and coaching changes. I’d take note in the wake of big wins and losses (Big Ten titles, the Ohio State win in 2010, the Kirk Cousins Hail Mary in 2011), but for the most part, they were just another program in my eyes. While that would come to drastically change, there was one thing that always came to mind when I thought of Wisconsin football (as it does for most people), and that was the run game.

The Badgers (0-0 Big Ten, 2-0 Overall) found the next great Wisconsin running back in their 31-14 win over Flordia Atlantic (0-0, 0-2).
