Any fan of useless statistics has likely visited Facebook's
'Pulse''??which uses aggregate data and other computer voodoo to
calculate the popularity of interests, music, movies and groups of
college students from schools across the United States. It makes
these calculations from a 'statistically reliable' source'the
information procrastinating college students choose to list in

Your parents are in town and boredom has made its presence loud
and clear. Your mom has organized your sock drawer for at least the
third time and your dad is starting to comment on the ESPN
broadcaster's shirt color. Sound familiar? It's time to get your
parents out and show them what Madison is really all about. Use
this as a resource guide of some of the best places to go with your
parents in Madison.

With 2005 coming to a close after a soft year at the box office,
much good still came from Hollywood. Much good and a whole lot of
bad.

It isn't enough to say that these films get darker, uglier,
meaner, nastier and better as the franchise hurtles along. The
world of Harry Potter is beloved, and an accumulation of talented
directors, writers and actors have us so invested in J.K. Rowling's
creation that the release of another Harry Potter movie has become
a glorious novelty in our world'almost as glorious as the books
themselves.

When applying for university housing before her freshman year,
Jess Fried ranked Ogg Hall dead last. She had not heard much about
it, yet somehow she knew she did not want to live there. But as
fate may have it, she ended up living there anyway and had no idea
what was in store.

It's easy to resent fashion models. They get paid gross amounts
of money for what appears to be very little work. Putting on
expensive clothes, flashing a smile (or, for the ultra-hip New York
runway set, that sexy vacant look of passive contempt) and walking
back and forth in a straight line doesn't seem all that hard. I
certainly used to think so, but that was before Sunday, when I
became a tuxedo model.

Some say Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey asked for attention
when they placed themselves in the spotlight with 'Newlyweds.' Who
knew nearly all publicity they would generate would be negative.
The Oct. 5 issue of US Weekly claimed the couple had finally split
after a year of rumors pointing toward marital problems. The mag
blamed Jessica's ego, partying and meddling father.

After being deemed the funniest movie of the summer, Wedding
Crashers cannot be viewed again (legally) until the DVD release
Jan. 6, 2006. Awaiting a time when it is possible to skip the love
story and engage in the hilarity that is the DVD, now seems the
pertinent moment to reminisce over the lines that made audiences
beg for the laughter to stop for the sake of their bursting spleen.

For many, food is an obsession. This obsession may manifest
itself in many ways'some healthy and some perhaps less advisable.

The late, great Gene Siskel once described a great film as one
containing 'three great scenes and no bad scenes. ' Solid overall,
containing outstanding scenes to distinguish it above the rest of
the pack.

At the photo shoot, it quickly became obvious why these guys
wanted to be Wisconsin's favorite mascot. The handstands,
synchronized jumps and \Warrior 3"" poses were all their ideas.
Laughing and cracking jokes the whole time, the impromptu comedy
show continued long after the photographer had left.

It's midterm season at U-Dub and in my world, it's obvious who's
schooling who. Every semester I commit to mastering courses weeks
in advance. Instead, I predictably retreat into Memorial Library
days before tests, panic-stricken and staring at equations as
though they're written in Klingon. Dazed, I begin calculating hours
according to military time like some shell-shocked soldier who's
done one-too-many tours in the stacks. \It's only 23:27, and the
test isn't until 08:00!"" I'll exclaim, my new facial twitch
growing more noticeable.

Regardless of whether you love or hate his style, Tim Burton
certainly knows how to make a unique movie. A true champion of the
bizarre, Burton's films range from the sympathetic \Edward
Scissorhands"" to the elaborate ""Charlie and the Chocolate
Factory,"" all united by his passion for misunderstood heroes and
differences between reality and fantasy.

An hour and a half in the cramped quarters of coach class
probably appeals to very few. This is squarely where director Wes
Craven places Rachel McAdams and Cillian Murphy in his latest
feature, \Red Eye."" Luckily, McAdams and Murphy are more than game
and make the plane ride feel riveting.
