If one were to conjure up an image of a stereotypical Christian
music group, the band Payable On Death would not fit the
description. Clad in black and covered in tattoos, the members of
P.O.D. are a far cry from clean-cut golden boys. Additionally, one
can hardly describe lead singer Sonny's shrill voice as being
angelic, nor does P.O.D.'s hard and heavy sound fit the mold of
typical worship music.

Harrison Ford does not need to make movies that often. His
incredible string of hits in the '70s, '80s and '90s cemented his
status as one of Hollywood's biggest stars ever. As a result of
this success, he can make a movie whenever he wants.

They lurk beneath your feet at this very moment, snaking through
the campus like an inconspicuous labyrinth. No, it is not a scene
out of 'Harry Potter,' it's the UW-Madison steam tunnel system.

This week several European newspapers reprinted offensive
cartoons of Mohammed from Denmark's Jyllens-Posten that were
originally published on Sept. 30, 2005. Crude cartoons met crude
reactions: Muslims in Beirut, Dubai and Damascus burned all things
Danish; Iraqis, Indians, Indonesians and Iranians rallied; Hamas
called for executions; and NATO soldiers killed Afghan rioters.
Clearly, free expression'whether in Jyllens-Posten, Washington
Post, or The Daily Cardinal'can be offensive. Fittingly, the
Vatican commented: 'The right to freedom of thought and expression
cannot entail the right to offend the religious sentiment of
believers.' But the Holy See's idea is wrong. Freedom of thought
and expression must entail the freedom to offend.

At the State of the Union Address last week, Beverly Young, wife
of U.S. Rep. C.W. Bill Young, R-Fla., was kicked out of the House
gallery for wearing a shirt that read, 'Support the Troops
Defending Our Freedom.' After reluctantly leaving, she argued with
the officers who escorted her out, wanting to know why she was not
allowed to stay. They claimed she was protesting.

On Lights and Sounds, Yellowcard clearly attempts to grow beyond
the teen punk-pop of their past. Their last album, Ocean Avenue,
achieved mainstream popularity without having any significant depth
or originality, beyond the fact that the Southern California outfit
has a violinist. Lights and Sounds is a different album than Ocean
Avenue, but change is not synonymous with growth.

It is very doubtful that Chuck Darwin ever intended the term
'evolution' to be a buzz-word attached to a film such as
'Underworld: Evolution.' Still, it is possible that Darwin is not
rolling over in his grave but instead smirking proudly at what an
astute exploration of evolution this film truly was. The latter
seems highly unlikely.

Terrence Malick is probably the most enigmatic director alive
today, having made only four films over the past 30-plus years. As
he has spent most of his time teaching philosophy, Malick
essentially moonlights in film, and every time he ventures out to
make another, it becomes an event for cinephiles. Like the
similarly reclusive Stanley Kubrick, Malick is a striking visionary
whose work eschews conventional storytelling techniques. Malick's
latest film, 'The New World,' is his most stylistically extreme and
will undoubtedly inspire divisive reactions, but for those who are
not put off by its deliberate pace, it is a lush, intoxicating
masterwork.

A tape believed by the Central Intelligence Agency to be from
Osama bin Laden boasts of terror attacks underway in the United
States and offers a truce between al Qaeda and the United States in
what would be his first message since December 2004.

The Badgers have been cool under pressure in games. That was
until Saturday. Wisconsin was ice cold in their game against the
North Dakota State Bison, going 16-for-72 from the field en route
to losing 62-55.

The first time a stranger shocked me on the topic of sex was
when I was 17. I waltzed into Wal-Mart and inconspicuously grabbed
a box of condoms. Not wanting to look like I was 17 and solely
buying condoms, I opted to also buy a magazine.

Congressmen Tom Tancredo, R-Colorado, will tell anyone who will
listen about an old Mexican legend that he says is coming true. The
myth that supposedly dates back to the days of when Spain ruled
Mexico, says that when unable to battle invaders through military
means, the citizens of Latin America will fight back by
stealth'infiltrating the soul of the enemy.

Defining and consciously preserving traditional
one-man/one-woman marriage in Wisconsin is not an issue The Family
Research Institute of Wisconsin sought. This issue has been thrust
upon all Wisconsin citizens by renegade judges and rogue government
officials. These have become champions of the radical agenda of a
small but very loud and influential group of people who are
determined to redefine a foundational societal institution in utter
disregard for the will of the people. They have left us no
alternative but to do everything we can to give traditional
one-man/one-woman marriage in Wisconsin the very best legal
protection currently possible: a state constitutional amendment.
Amending Wisconsin's constitution, while rightfully demanding,
ultimately gives the people of this state the final say. That is
altogether appropriate, especially on an issue of the magnitude of
the definition of marriage.

With the Badgers' home win-streak on the line last year against
Big Ten Champion Illinois, the Kohl Center home crowd started to
get a lot of national attention. The Grateful Red began drawing
comparison to the crowds at Duke, Connecticut and Kansas. Many
players even credited the fans' intensity with their 11-point
come-from-behind win against Michigan State last year. With every
Alando Tucker slam and Greg Stiemsma swat, the Big Ten banners
hanging from the rafters tremor with the vibration of the arena.
Yet the place really goes berserk when a certain junior guard
enters the game.

Cross country is traditionally not a sport followed by many.
Additionally, sportwriters who do not follow the sport should not
have their opinions on a cross country athlete published.

Since the 1960s when The Beatles made A Hard Day's Night, the
worlds of music and movies have often collided in film. Though
numerous different kinds of music movies have resulted'dramas,
documentaries, concert films, musicals, etc.'by far, the most
subjective kind is when a director or actor gives their own unique
interpretation of an artist, often deceased, through a drama
biopic. Whether an Oliver Stone sleazefest, a crazy Bruce Campbell
romp or an indie mood piece, these films often have widely varying
degrees of quality. With the release of Walk The Line, the latest
of this type of film, here's a look at a few that have come
before.

The Crips have earned the dubious distinction as America's most
publicized and successful street gang. Once a dysfunctional
purse-snatching outfit based in south-central Los Angeles, the
notorious group now operates in 42 states. While their founder,
Stanley 'Tookie' Williams, awaits his execution, the recently
formed UW-Madison organization Coalition Against Legal Lynching
seeks to reverse his sentence.

North Korea will continue to produce nuclear warheads at a rate
of eight to ten a year, and six-party talks are not going to halt
production anytime soon. After three days of negotiations in
Beijing last week, the six-nation talks ended on the same ambiguous
and undefined note they began.

Everyone knows college students have long been one of this
country's most oppressed demographics. When it comes to taking jive
from the man, this group of mostly white, upper-middle class
twenty-somethings with little or no financial responsibility (aside
from beer money, of course) is right up there with country-club
tennis pros and trophy wives.

It is neither a secret nor a surprise that the United States has
image problems in the Middle East. After all, when not even a
majority of Midwesterners support the war in Iraq, it seems a bit
of a stretch to expect Middle Easterners not feel the same way.
Recognizing that this anger is raising the profile of Islamic
radicals in the Middle East, the Bush administration has launched
various initiatives intended to revamp America's image.
