Ohio natives Twenty One Pilots were one of three incredible talents to light up the sold-out Majestic Theatre April 16—preceding them was Hunter Hunted, followed by NONONO. Hunter Hunted, an indie group who prides themselves on perfectly timed drops and the ability to hold their own on stage, played about a half hour set, as well as NONONO, a Swedish rock group who had the only female lead vocalist of the night. Hunter Hunted is in the process of recording their first full-length album and were selling their EP at the Majestic. The members of Hunter Hunted also made their way through the crowd during the other sets and hung out with the audience.

With each new blade of green grass that emerges from beneath thin layers of late snowfall, smiles slide onto faces with a bit more ease. However, the return of warm afternoons and whistling robins is a relief too often taken for granted. As sweaters are traded for T-shirts and winter boots for sneakers; as baseball gloves and Frisbees are pulled from storage shelves to relish in the magnificence of the surrounding world, now is also the season to recognize its fragility.

With spring break come and gone and students settling into their normal day-to-day routines, it is easy to forget that diet and exercise plan toward a bikini-ready body. However the best research suggests that short-term weight loss is very hard to maintain, and instead we should direct our attention toward the future.

Junior Jonny Landers didn’t have any big plans for his week off of classes. But that didn’t stop him from doing what he does best: playing “RuneScape.” For a grand total of 134 hours, little Jonny sat in his parents’ eastern Illinois basement with his face glued to a computer screen. While his peers were off at Panama City Beach getting hammed, Jonny Boy shredded through quest after quest. Due to his unwavering dedication to the ’scape, he’s a hero to us all.

We entered Saturday with renewed spirits. We’d dried off and so had the world; nothing but blue skies and slightly less health-endangering heats awaited us. The plan was to get to Pitchfork at around 1 p.m. and catch White Lung and Pissed Jeans for a notably punk afternoon, but underestimating both Chicago traffic and the lunch rush threw us off and we arrived too late to do either. Instead we headed over towards the blue stage, our consistently shady bastion, to see Julia Holter.

As much as Pitchfork gets a bad rap these days (I recently asked a “too-cool” friend of mine if he wanted to go see Pharmakon and Wolf Eyes, making the mistake of mentioning it was a Pitchfork sponsored event. He loves both acts, but responded, “that sounds like the worst thing ever,”) it’s hard to doubt the staff’s intentions and love of music. Even with all the ugly talk of “politics,” “agendas” and “taste making” surrounding their buzz band-birthing empire, you have to give them credit for building a truly devoted monument to the artists they cover. They do it all; interviews, music videos, cover stories, in-house sessions and more. Best of all, they put on the Pitchfork Music Festival every July at Union Park in Chicago.

Dear Mr. Scientist,
(04/16/13 1:58am)
Well ya’ll, it looks like it’s happening. School is almost out, and once again, most of us are all but moving into the campus libraries to bang our heads against our laptops—or whatever it is we do there. As the deadlines come rolling in, some of us will graduate, while some are relieved to have made it through freshman year and some are just excited to have more free time to drink beer. As I look to my summer plans and try, as I do every year, to make this the best summer of my life, I once again find myself making plans I probably won’t keep.

Two weeks ago, I kicked off the list with the delicious dive bar brews of the Malt House at No. 10, following Cooper’s Tavern’s rustic atmosphere and conservative tap list, which filled the No. 9 spot. The next bar on the list offers a similar modern exposed-brick and wood interior design, with two full bars and plenty of American craft beers to choose from.
