Wisconsin's 1-0 loss on Senior Day Sunday to Minnesota at the
McClimon Soccer Complex left the Badgers hanging their heads for
two reasons. The six seniors in cardinal and white not only lost
their last game in front of their home crowd, but the defeat also
meant the loss of Wisconsin's control of gaining entry into the Big
Ten Tournament.

True to recent form, the Wisconsin men's soccer team burst out
of the blocks once again in Sunday's match against Illinois-Chicago
and took an early lead.

The college football season has been second to none when it
comes to upsets this year. Just take a look at how the top spots in
the weekly polls have been changing. Every week for the past three
weeks, the No. 2 team in the country has fallen: first it was USC,
then it was Cal, and last Thursday it was the Bulls of South
Florida. In the past four weeks, there have been three different
teams listed as No. 1 in the country. Even more surprising, every
week for the past four weeks, at least two of the nations top six
teams have fallen, with at least one of those teams losing to an
unranked opponent.

As a person of Irish descent, I have always looked fondly on my
Irish heritage. Most people do not believe that I'm Irish - mainly
because I am not a short, freckled man with red hair and a pot o'
gold - but are convinced once they realize that my last name is
Carey, which couldn't belong to any other nationality besides the
Irish.

The one question I can consistently never answer well, due to
its sheer broadness of scope, should in theory be a bit more fun:
So what kind of music do you like?"" People ask this because music
is obviously a great topic of conversation, and other ways to
broach the subject can be quite limited.

I've been fighting it all my life. I can tell what people think
when they look at me, but I can't help it - I'm a hick trapped in a
big city.

As a kid, I always had certain sports athletes that I idolized
without regret. Some of them were unnecessary (Matt Unertl of the
Wisconsin Badgers' football team), some were unfortunate (Keyshawn
Johnson when he was with the New York Jets) and some caused me to
be disowned by my own father (John Elway during the 1997 season in
which Denver beat my beloved Packers in the Super Bowl).

If you would have told her four years ago, at the start of her
junior year in high school, that she would someday be a starter for
the No. 9 collegiate volleyball team in the country, she would have
laughed at you.

All of the greatest artists, authors and musicians endured
hardship in their lives. And somehow each cultural contributor has
managed to turn strife into poetry. The best art seems to come from
these people - people like Van Gogh, Hunter S. Thompson and 50
Cent. This makes me feel devastatingly normal, as the hardest thing
I have endured is a two-day hang over.

Sometimes it's easy to predict the future. If you touch O.J.
Simpson's sports collectibles, he's probably going to freak out.

Three weeks into the college football season, and already there
have been a fair number of upsets. The infamous Appalachian State
triumph over No. 5 Michigan, South Florida's surprise victory
against No. 17 Auburn, Utah's assault on No. 11 UCLA, and
Kentucky's win over No. 9 Louisville are just some of the most
notable games in the past month.

It's a typical Thursday night around 8 p.m. Where are you? If
you're like many college students (and adults) these days, you're
probably in front of a TV watching one of ABC's biggest hits, the
hospital drama Grey's Anatomy."" And if you're not - Have you been
living under a rock for the past three years?
