What was the last book you didn’t finish? Come now: you’re not all perfect little literature angels heralding the merits of the written word. Was it a class reading? Was it a book for recreation? Did one of you little fools try and read “Finnegans Wake” on a dare? On a related note, did you survive and/or avoid hospitalization?

Well folks, it looks like we’re in for another splendid academic year in the happiest place on Earth — er, the happiest college campus in the country! The sun is shining, crushed, empty Keystone Light cans are littered throughout the campus and Montee Ball is on his own two feet and running for touchdowns despite the best efforts of his foes. Indeed, we are already living the life.

As a sports fan, you start to build up some expectations for the teams you support. After two straight Big Ten championships and Rose Bowl appearances, Badger football fans have come to expect consistent success.

It’s been one of golf’s top stories in some capacity since early 2010: Tiger’s comeback. He was in contention at the 2010 Masters—his first event since news broke of his extensive affair—and analysts couldn’t help but presume Tiger would soon be back to his major-championship-winning ways.

Correction: The fifth paragraph of this article originally stated "He is Libertarian, meaning he does not think government should not interfere in issues like marriage, drugs and abortion." The article has been edited to reflect Paul's view that government should not interfere in those issues. We apologize for the error.

I had zero idea that I would end up in the middle of Dance Motherf*cker at Union South with Gabe Herrera spinning last May. He moved seamlessly between hip hop and electronic vibes and I found myself thoroughly enjoying the mix and pondering why I never came to DMF. Eventually, by my request, Chief Keef’s “I Don’t Like” boomed menacingly in a room containing me and about 20 others. I leapt in some sort of graceless aggression with my friend Ian while watching the rest awkwardly performing a verbal tiptoe around the infamous N-word war-chant chorus.

This article marks my first post in a series of columns about Madison craft beer. An avid beer enthusiast for a while now, I’ve founded and operated a beer blog with a few friends for over a year and couldn’t be more excited to have this opportunity to write exclusively about Madison’s best beer, bars and brewpubs. However, before I jump into the heart of the craft beer scene surrounding UW-Madison, I want to take the time to tell you why I love writing about beer in the first place.

Let’s get this straight. This isn’t a love for the Food Network where I watch a couple shows and call it a night. Oh no, it goes much deeper than that. I live the Food Network. I follow Alton Brown, Giada De Laurentiis and Bobby Flay on Twitter. I vote for the Next Food Network Star. I don’t cheer for certain contestants in Chopped but rather Geoffrey Zakarian giving a snarky comment on how well-done the beef was. And I might be the only guy in America that loves Guy Fieri unironically (seriously, the dude is hilarious). If you don’t watch the channel then you probably don’t understand my addiction, but if you do could you please schedule my intervention ahead of time so I know when to miss it?

Row upon row of women sat in a musty factory hand-painting watch dials. Each woman brought her camel-hair paintbrush to her lips, drew it into a point and carefully drew on numbers with a radiolumiescent paint. One by one these dial painters mysteriously became ill. They suffered from anemia, bone fractures and jaw necrosis, and some even died.

I don’t obsessively keep up with the entertainment world. New remake of that one fantastic campy-cult show from the ’80s? Probably never even saw the original. New album by that one sexy flannel-wearing indie band? Please excuse me while I turn up my Al Green.

We all know how stressful it is finding off-campus housing in Madison, and that is in a town we know and presumably with people we know, as well. Imagine, then, finding housing in a big bad city. If you have done this before, you will know what I am getting at. If not, then prepare yourselves for the excruciating and uncomfortable experience that is finding housing post-graduation.

There’s something poignant about Wyclef’s “Justice (If You’re 17),” a cautionary tale hidden behind the breezy Caribbean stylings of the former Fugees front man. The unremarkable combination of simple guitar riffs and drums unfolding at that leisurely island pace are easy to get lost in, until the singer’s distinctive warble reemerges from the haze with lyrics written from the life of any young minority:

The 2012 Wisconsin Film Festival is finally here, and featuring more films than ever over five days, from Wednesday through Sunday. The festival is a remarkable opportunity for Madisonians to see a side of the indie film world that usually requires living in L.A. or New York, right here in our own backyard. To get your cinematic tastebuds salivating, I’ve selected the five films from this year’s lineup that have intrigued me the most:
