Erica,
Rockstar Gomeroke is all about the dark stage, the illuminating lights and friends hanging out to hear you sing your favorite song with the Gomers, a local band.
One of the benefits of attending a university the size of UW-Madison is the richness and diversity of culture available to students. Orchestra concerts, live bands, plays, musicals, art museums-the list is innumerable. Perhaps the best exemplification of this spirit and commitment to culture is the Interdisciplinary Arts Residency Program.
After Ohio State and Penn State lost and the Badgers (4-2 Big Ten, 8-2 overall) took care of business against Minnesota, the natural reaction was to consider what a de facto Divisions League championship game would look like Nov. 26 at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison.
After a resounding 54 point victory against Kennesaw State Saturday—in which the Wisconsin men’s basketball team shot 15-25 from behind the arc and moved up one spot to No. 14 in the AP Poll—the Badgers looked to pick up its second regular season win against the Colgate Raiders of the Patriot League Wednesday.
Savion Glover nearly stomped through the floorboards of the Wisconsin Union Theater's floorboards Thursday evening, followed by multiple standing ovations from the audience. Glover, a 37 year old tap dancer, actor and choreographer from New Jersey has incredible amount of expertise, which was immediately apparent through his performance.
Lotus will spark a party at the Majestic Theatre this Friday and Saturday with their jam-based compositions, inspired by a host of genres.
According to head coach Mike Eaves, if you had told him at the beginning of the season that his young Wisconsin men’s hockey team (3-3 WCHA, 4-4 overall) would be .500 at the end of the season’s first month, he would have taken it, and that is exactly where the Badgers find themselves after their first four weekends of play.
I have aspired to be a disc jockey ever since I was a young kid. Local LA radio personalities like KRTH 101's ""Real"" Don Steel and 95.5 KLOS' Uncle Joe Benson were consistently on the family radio during my childhood. Growing up, I began to develop an admiration for such on-air personalities: they just sounded so smooth, so cool as they talked about music. These guys, Shotgun Tom and Uncle Joe, were all about keeping the oldies alive during the 1990s. Because of my youthful exposure to the FM throwback stations, it became my prime objective in life to be heard on the airwaves.
For many, the death of ""Muppets"" creator Jim Henson in 1990 passed the decades-old franchise into the realm of nostalgia, an indelible cultural songbook shielded from the ravages of modern tastes. Yet while the Muppets: The Green Album's conceit of mixing classic Muppet anthems with the likes of Weezer or The Fray might ring as exploitative, the result is an uneven but pleasantly sunny romp that showcases more the strength in the original songwriting than the vanity of its multi-platinum stars.
After a five-year hiatus, a major personnel change and some classical training, the Red Hot Chili Peppers are back with their 10th studio album, I'm With You. Though it has a much different flavor than previous Chili Peppers efforts, it hits all the right notes, again cementing their place as one of the greatest bands of the last few decades. That being said, old fans shouldn't go into their first listen expecting to hear the same hard nosed funk and in your face riffs they heard on previous albums. The Chili Peppers are a band impossible to place neatly in one genre. No two albums have ever sounded the same and I'm With You is no exception. It shows a tamer but technically proficient side of the band, yet another step in their constant musical evolution.
The Daily Cardinal's Arts staff has compiled a list of the venues to see in Madison and what you can expect at each one. This is not a comprehensive list, but by virtue of being close to campus we have decided to include them in this guide to your Madison concert experience.
The latest law-mystery film, "The Lincoln Lawyer," reminds me of a paperclip. It's fully functional and does what is expected of it. It keeps everything in order and doesn't leave any loose ends, but it also is unremarkable. This paperclip is pretty much the same as all other paperclips, and is likely to be forgotten the moment you no longer have any use for it. "The Lincoln Lawyer," starring Matthew McConaughey, seems to feature some confused character development and is similarly dull—unworthy of a $10 movie ticket, or really even a $5 rental.
After a late-season slide that saw the team go 1-6-1 over the final month of its season the No. 19 Wisconsin men's hockey team finds itself having to go on the road for the first round of the WCHA playoffs. What makes the Badgers' series this weekend unique is that they will be facing No. 16 Colorado College for the second weekend in a row.
Kings Go Forth: Milwaukee's own funk band is bringing their soul to the Majestic stage Saturday
Whenever a new wave of music takes over the Internet and starts invading the iPods of hipsters, a lot of bands are bound to get swept up in that wave whether they like it or not. One band to both benefit and suffer from this phenomenon recently has been Milwaukee outfit Kings Go Forth, who have seen their profile rise considerably in the wake of the 70's soul and funk revival.
Wisconsin's I-94 corridor generally consists of a lot of prairies and farmland, but not much else. But for Madisonians, one of the benefits of living along this long stretch of concrete is the fleet of bands who stop in Madison while travelling between Minneapolis and Chicago. This weekend one of the Twin Cities' top acts will roadtrip down our favorite interstate when Tapes ‘n Tapes stop for a show at the High Noon Saloon Friday at 9 p.m.
With exams fast approaching the students need an escape from all the chaos. We need to keep ourselves sane before delving into the hell we call finals week, or for some, finals month. This Friday, steez is going to blow the roof off of the Majestic Theater with their fifth annual Last Day of Class Mustache Bash. Calling this an end of the year pick-me-up is an understatement. This concert will send you into finals saying to yourself, ""I'm going to rock the shit out of these exams. Creepfunk style.""

As students start putting their costumes and keg orders together for Halloween weekend, perhaps they should factor Wook-O-Ween into their plans. The event, which is set to go down at the Orpheum Theatre Stage Door from 10 p.m. to 2:30 a.m., is sure to provide an avenue for the hordes of Freakfest attendees looking to continue dancing into the morning.
