From Lady Gaga to the up-and-coming Lorde, this season has seen a surge of female pop singers release albums. Some albums are finding chart success, and others are stumbling out as awkward flops. I can’t say that black metal has ever appealed to me. I mean, when it comes to metal, I usually draw my line around Pantera. So, I went into Skeletonwitch’s new album Serpents Unleashed with pretty low expectations thinking that I’d get lost with the unintelligible groaning that defines the genre.
