Rock 'n' roll bands are making their way back onto the charts. It appears that females are being excluded from the tight club but a Seattle independent rock band, Honey Tongue, is fronted with a female lead singer. Jen Ayers sings with an unusual range and style; she has a throaty voice like Cher with a hard-core edge.

The hotly-contested No. 8 seed in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association playoffs is up for grabs this weekend. The reinvigorated Wisconsin Badgers will attempt to surmount the Michigan Tech Huskies in a series that will decide the post-season fate of UW hockey.

UW runs streak to 10 against UW-M

Over the weekend, UW men's basketball hosted the UW-Milwaukee Panthers and defeated them for the 10th straight time. The Badgers had five players in double digits en route to their 83-72 victory, bringing their record to 3-0.

Family survives against the harsh life of the African wildnerness

It starts with loaded guns. A child, answering nature's call, stumbles into her parents' room and is met with a harsh voice that tells her she might get shot. The child grabs her older sister's hand and they go outside into the blank landscape to pee in the loo. It continues to reveal children with ticks and worms, terrorists under the bed, some colonialism, alcoholism and a memoir strong enough to scour one's sense of the world.  

Men's hockey splits home series with Huskies

The Badger men's hockey team hosted Michigan Tech Friday and Saturday nights in their Western Collegiate Hockey Association home opener to split the series. The Huskies controlled the game Friday and shut out the Badgers 1-0, ending their 10-game losing streak. However, UW bounced back from Friday's loss and dominated the ice Saturday, producing a score of 5-0.  

Coming together over Nintendo

The weekend of Oct. 5-7 was the worst weekend I have ever experienced in Madison. The Cardinal lost to the Herald in overtime. The Badgers were beaten like a rented mule by Indiana, of all teams. The Packers lost to Tampa Bay. And I had three midterms in three consecutive days to look forward to. I wandered around the Lodge and contemplated taking out my clown punching bag and beating it until it was crippled. However, I found my salvation in 'Goal.'
