This Halloween, people across the country will watch ""The
Shining,"" ""The Exorcist,"" ""Dawn of the Dead"" and a host of
other films your kid sibling isn't supposed to see without Mom or
Dad. But there's no reason to stretch the MPAA's limits when
looking for horror this Tuesday; as anyone reared on Disney, Grimm
fairy tales or the Bible knows, it's often the stuff deemed MOST
appropriate for kids that ends up being the scariest. Here, the
Cardinal Arts Staff examines the most terrifying films to ever
receive the film industry's tamest rating.

Far in north eastern Wisconsin, well past Green Bay, lies Oconto
Falls, home of the aptly named Falls Brewing Co. Now, never having
been east of Eau Claire I can only surmise, via this brewery's
ambassador-like ale, what it must be like.

The Badgers carried their prior two weeks' success on offense
into this week's game against Minnesota, blowing out the
beleaguered Gophers 48-12 to retain possession of Paul Bunyan's
Axe.
(10/15/06 6:00am)
The Badgers waited until the end of the game to take a victory
lap with Paul Bunyan's Axe, but they could have circled the field
much earlier.

Ever since the thrilling conclusion to last season's matchup
between the No. 25 Wisconsin football team (2-1 Big Ten, 5-1
overall) and Minnesota (0-3, 2-4), the two teams have gone in
drastically different directions.

On Nov. 15, 1890, the Badgers took the field in Minneapolis in
the first game played in what is now the longest rivalry in college
football history. Over a hundred years of wars in the trenches,
game winning kicks and heralded running attacks. We need only look
back to last season's Jonathan Casillas ""punt block heard round
the world"" to understand what makes the battle for Paul Bunyan's
Axe so special.

A Division I athlete on a college campus doesn't have to do or
say a whole lot to be considered down-to-earth. He has to nod
indiscriminately to fans as he passes, dole out verbal salutations
with liberty and award a select but sizable few a high-, low-, or
medium-five if and whenever possible.

This weekend's game will be special for a variety of reasons.
It's Wisconsin's homecoming and Bucky Badger promises to be in the
highest of spirits with all the festivities before and after game
time. Also, Wisconsin cracked the AP Top 25 Poll for the first time
this season, and the upcoming weeks will be crucial for keeping the
team's postseason hopes alive. However, none of these circumstances
quite compare to the magnitude of what's at stake this Saturday:
that heavy piece of artillery, Paul Bunyan's Axe.

Let me begin this column by saying that on Saturday I watched
""American Psycho,"" and I am now legitimately freaked out by a)
Christian Bale, 2) people who decorate their homes with a lot of
white, and d) chainsaws. This brings up an excellent point. What if
Tobey Maguire had been cast as Patrick Bateman, prince of delusion?
Or what about everybody's favorite actor ever (!!!), Paul Walker?
Would it have worked? All the sweating and the tanning and the
handling of nail guns, knives, axes, etc.? Would you really get it
if Peter Parker pointed a handgun at a kitten?

As the Wisconsin football team made its season debut in the AP
rankings this week at No. 25, head coach Bret Bielema used much of
his Monday press conference to take stock of the season—now at its
halfway point—thus far.

So by now we all know the storyline for the 2006 Wisconsin
Badgers. They have a young, very talented defense and an offense
that returns only its starting quarterback and nationally touted
offensive lineman who might have to line up at wide receiver soon.

Amid the buzz of the Southeast Recreational Facility, a thin
girl in a Puma tracksuit approached the office with an odd
accusation: The stupid treadmill broke my phone. Can I file a
complaint?\

In its brief broadcast run, the cult classic 'Freaks and Geeks'
won over a small but dedicated group of fans. This fanbase loved it
for its uncomfortable, quirky humor, but with the Darwinist nature
of television, anything without good ratings must go'therefore,
'Geeks' was axed. Luckily for fans of the show, creator Paul Feig
wrote 'Superstud,' which continues on in 'Geeks'' legacy.
'Superstud: Or How I Became a 24-Year-Old Virgin' takes an
autobiographical look at Feig's misadventures through his dating
life. Throughout the novel, Feig recounts episodes dealing with his
first loves to his dabblings with masturbation.

If any of you have ever taken Intro to Production, you know that
this is the time of the semester when everybody is scrambling to
finish (or maybe even start) their final projects. I am currently
in the class, struggling to make the best movie I can with only
five dollars and a couple friends.

Everyone likes a big finish. That's what makes action movies,
fireworks and Peter North so popular. But the best big finishes
aren't found on the silver screen or in the dark blue sky; they're
found on what many fans would call the \other day of rest""-college
football Saturdays. Perhaps there is something holy about football
on Saturday. If so, you would say this past Saturday was supremely
sanctified and could, one day, become a holiday.

MINNEAPOLIS-When a team trails by 10 points with less than three
minutes remaining, after giving up more than 400 yards on the
ground, few would expect a victory. Even the head coach.

Physically, Wisconsin's Brian Calhoun and Minnesota's Keith
Lipka are exact opposites. Calhoun, at 5'10' 194 lbs is a shifty,
clean-cut running back that has burst onto the national scene this
year. At 6'3' 260 lbs with blond hair flowing down to his
shoulders, Lipka is a perfect example of the brute force that
exists on the line of scrimmage in the Big Ten Conference. But the
duo's journey from the halls of Oak Creek High School to Saturday's
battle for Paul Bunyan's Axe is exceptionally comparable.

EVANSTON, ILL.??- Prior to this Saturday, the play of the
Wisconsin defense could be described in four simple words: bend but
don't break. However, on a chilly and overcast day in Evanston, the
floodgates finally opened, and the results were disastrous.
