Wisconsin finally kicks off its regular season Sunday against
Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne at home. The
Badgers played in the annual red-white scrimmage and two exhibition
games, and will now play when it counts.

After months of training and a two-game exhibition stint, the
Wisconsin men's basketball team will kick off its season this
Sunday night when they host Indiana University-Purdue University
Fort Wayne. With an extremely competitive Big Ten Conference this
year and a challenging stretch in late November and early December,
it's crucial the Badgers start off strong to set the tone for a
successful season.

On UW-Superior's first possession, junior forward Jake Smith
sent a high, inaccurate pass to junior forward Marcus Helland, who
made the catch, hung in the air and banked it home to complete the
alley-oop, sending oo's and ah's through the Kohl Center. But it
was all downhill from there for the Yellowjackets, as Wisconsin
cruised to an 80-47 preseason win.

Wisconsin wraps up its exhibition schedule tonight against an
in-state rival. Not Marquette, not UW-Milwaukee, not even UW-Green
Bay. Instead, UW-Superior will travel from the northern tip of
Wisconsin to Madison to face the Badgers.

Coco Chanel: Crass and witty, Audrey Tautou saves the otherwise
standard biopic ?Coco Before Chanel,? whose predictable narrative
arc leaves audiences to wonder why filmmakers focused on her
pre-icon status.

Although it shows promise in certain nuances and is thoroughly
well designed, Anne Fontaine's ""Coco Before Chanel"" offers a
somewhat narratively contrived tale of Gabrielle ""Coco"" Chanel's
life before becoming France's legendary fashion designer.

Have you tried to initiate someone into ""Lost"" over the last
two seasons? I attempted to explain to a few friends how time
travel, the freighter and Charles Widmore related to being stranded
on a desert island; needless to say, their heads exploded, and now
I'm down two good friends.

Well, we've reached the end of the year, and because the final
issue next Thursday will be full of summer previews, this will be
my last column... or will it? Might some extra page space show up
conveniently? Will I flex my considerable power as arts editor and
kick some freshman's measly article off the page for my own
enjoyment? You'll have to wait and find out.

With hopes of keeping its postseason alive, the Wisconsin
women's basketball team will gear up to host St. Bonaventure in the
third round of the Women's National Invitational Tournament
Thursday.

It took until late in the evening Sunday for the whole picture
to develop, but this year's Big Ten tournament seeding took an
interesting twist in Wisconsin's favor. Thanks to Iowa's upset over
the Nittany Lions and Minnesota's slip-up against Michigan in The
Barn, the Badgers, who entered the day in sixth place, earned a No.
4 seed in the conference tournament. Despite having the same
conference record, Wisconsin surpasses Ohio State and Penn State in
the bracket because of its 3-0 record over both teams this
season.

On a fateful summer day in 1974, a French street performer named
Philippe Petit pulled off one of New York City's greatest stunts.

With accurate passing from their post players, the Badgers
forced Michigan out of its preferred defense in the second half of
their 60-55 victory.

EAST LANSING, Mich.—The dam broke, the top-10 team asserted
itself and at the end of the day, Wisconsin lost a game that it
was… well, expected to lose.
(02/18/09 6:00am)
Since Big Ten play began for the Badgers about two months ago, a
noticeable trend evolved: strong correlation between junior guard
Jason Bohannon's performance and the success of Wisconsin as a
team. In the Badgers' seven conference victories, Bohannon
converted over 55 percent of his field-goal attempts, but he shot
only 33 percent from the field in their six defeats. The bottom
line is that for Wisconsin to be successful, Bohannon has to put
the ball in the basket.

In a back-and-forth overtime showing, the Wisconsin women's
basketball team couldn't hold on until the end and suffered another
loss to Indiana 67-61.

Two weekends ago I flew to St. Louis with my boyfriend to
celebrate his parents' 25th wedding anniversary. To my dismay, a
few days before we set off, my boyfriend Jeff informed me that we
would be accompanying his parents to synagogue where they would
receive a special anniversary blessing.

The end of a four-game winning streak was the beginning of
another in the Kohl Center Saturday night as the Wisconsin men's
basketball team (7-6 Big Ten, 16-9 overall) escaped with an
exciting 55-50 win against Ohio State (7-5, 17-6) to keep its
postseason hopes alive.

Keepin' It Real On Valentine's Day

One week's time was all it took for the Wisconsin men's
basketball team to get its bearings after a month's worth of hard
times.
(02/06/09 6:00am)
For as bad as things have been, the Wisconsin men's basketball
team (4-6 Big Ten, 13-9 overall) picked up a crucial and convincing
63-50 win against No. 23 Illinois (6-4, 18-5) in what is probably
the last chance for a turnaround in their season. Without question,
it was the double-digit scoring contributions from senior forward
Marcus Landry and sophomore forward Jon Leuer, as well as the
white-hot 3-point shooting from junior guard Jason Bohannon, that
powered the Badgers to their first victory in nearly a
month.
