This article aims to expose some of the racial—and racist—dimensions of the recent divestment debate. Our central claim is that reactions to the divestment resolution were shaped by racialized narratives about Arab students, not merely by policy disagreements. We summarize the resolution before exploring how this debate unfolded in a racist manner.

The University of Wisconsin System has undergone a striking series of leadership changes over the past few months. In February, University of Wisconsin-Madison Chancellor Jennifer Mnookin announced her departure for Columbia University. A couple weeks ago, the Regents terminated President Jay Rothman, and most recently, Athletic Director Chris McIntosh announced his exit.

At 13 years old, I was unstoppable with my first iPod Touch. I viewed the internet through a Clarendon filter: venti Starbucks Frappuccino, boomerangs by the beach and unfiltered, often offensive, tweets. Given the freedom to post whatever, whenever, or at least at the mercy of a good WiFi connection, I was unlikely to hesitate before hitting upload.

Due to increasing capabilities and the usage of artificial intelligence, it is becoming increasingly difficult to draw a clear line between studying and cheating in college. As AI tools like ChatGPT become common study aids, students are left asking a new question: when does using AI stop being learning support and start becoming academic dishonesty?

I think it was the orange explosion that changed me. It wasn’t only that my ears heard the blast or that my body felt the shake. My eyes saw it, the color. A sudden, overwhelming orange, as if the fire itself had exploded just in front of my windows. Looking back now, it was one of the most frightening moments -- though not the only one -- that I have lived through since the US-Israel war on Iran.

College can sometimes feel like years of work and money spent leading to nothing more than a name on a piece of paper. Between the cost, effort and time required to earn a degree, the question becomes hard to ignore: is college actually worth it?

When my parents attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the early 2000s, it was a golden age for Badgers. Back-to-back Rose Bowl wins, a Final Four run and a housing market that hadn’t yet declared war on students.

At the beginning of every semester, an email from the University of Wisconsin-Madison arrives in students’ inboxes reminding them that tuition payments are due. For many students, it is simply another administrative notice buried among Canvas announcements and club newsletters. For others, it marks the beginning of careful calculations of rent, textbooks, groceries and financial aid.

College can be, without a doubt, the most vibrant, exciting time of one's life. But it can also be an experience often overshadowed by stress and anxiety. For many students, college is their first experience living somewhere away from home, surrounded by new people in a completely unique dynamic. To make sure that potential stress doesn’t wash away the fun of college life, it’s key for students to prioritize their own mental and physical health.

Do you ever notice how different your mood feels when you spend the day in sweatpants compared to when you take the time to dress up? Think about the last time you had an important presentation, interview or event. Did you reach for sweatpants, or did you choose something that made you feel confident and prepared? The way we dress may seem like a small decision, but it can significantly influence how we think, feel and perform throughout the day.

If you listen closely to members of the University of Wisconsin-Madison student body on a Monday morning as they wake up to their alarms, you will hear a collective groan. Another early start to a long week ahead. With an even closer look, you can catch a glimpse of some of the usual suspects:

The Islamic Republic of Iran was created shortly after the revolution in 1979 overthrew the country’s monarchy. Not only did this cause a seismic political shift, but it led to the creation of a theocracy. The fusion of religion with government reshaped every aspect of Iranian life. Under Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, women’s rights were stripped and protests were met with force. The regime entrenched what many have called gender apartheid into law by classifying women as second-hand citizens and limiting their rights in divorce, inheritance, child custody and education.

Since kindergarten I have been asked one question every year: “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Over the years my responses have changed from mermaid, architect, astronaut and now, genetic counselor (even that might change).
