Madison’s spring primary is Feb. 17, and the outcomes will determine who will advance to the general election on April 7.
Across Madison, voters will vote for the Dane County Circuit Court Branch 1 primary, choosing two judges to take current Wisconsin State Supreme Court Justice Susan Crawford’s former seat.
The county’s Circuit Court includes 17 branches that handle criminal, civil, family, probate and traffic cases in Wisconsin. Huma Ahsan and Nathan Wagner are challenging incumbent Judge Ben Jones in Branch 1, who was appointed by Gov. Tony Evers in August last year. The two highest vote-getters will advance to the April 7 general election ballot.
Some voters may see candidates running for other local offices, including school boards and county offices. Incumbent Tommy Rylander faces Sean Burke and Otis Harris Jr. in District 12, while interim representative Amy Larson, Nino Amato and Rick Cruz compete for the District 15 seat. All 37 County Board seats are up for election in April. In District 28, Nathan McGree and Aaron Linas challenge incumbent Michele Doolan.
Candidates for the Wisconsin Supreme Court, while on Tuesday’s primary ballot, will both advance to the April 7 election, as there are only two candidates running: conservative Maria Lazar and liberal Chris Taylor.
Polls are open until 8 p.m. You can see what’s on your ballot at myvote.wi.gov.
