The University of Wisconsin-Madison will host many free Halloween events around campus leading up to Oct. 31.
Starship delivery bots are already celebrating. Customized spooky robot themes are available now until Oct. 31, with personas of Count Snackula, Witchy Wheels, FrankenFeast, Hungry Haunter and Pumpkinbot available to choose. Robots will deliver speaking in-character.
Tuesday, Oct. 28
Pumpkin Craft Movie Night will feature painting, “pumpkin porcupine crafts,” snacks, candy and a “slightly spooky” Halloween themed movie. The movie night will be hosted at Dejope Residence Hall from 2:30 to 4 p.m. in classroom 110.
Neurodivergent Community & Activism Group at UW-Madison is hosting a Creepy Clay Craft Night involving participants creating their own Halloween-themed clay keepsake while engaging in a discussion on neurodivergence “with meaningful conversation in a welcoming environment.” The event will be hosted at DISCO Office on 333 East Campus Mall from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in suite 3107.
Wednesday, Oct. 29
Candy salad, anyone? Students can create DIY Candy Jars on the third floor of Carson’s Market from 10 to 11:30 a.m. with Wisconsin Weekdays. Decorate your own candy jar and create a candy salad with a mix of classic Halloween candies.
Thursday, Oct. 30
For pre-holiday festivities, head to Carson’s Halloween Party at Carson’s Market from 11 to 4 p.m. for a lunch filled with “devilishly good food” and treats, including goulash and caramel apples.
Create a unique design using a variety of beads provided at Bead Embroidery in Dejope Residence Hall, classroom 1110, from 3 to 4:30 p.m.
Friday, Oct. 31
Students can decorate their own pumpkin cookies at all campus dining markets from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The Wisconsin Union will host a Halloween Night Climb at Bakke Recreation & Wellbeing Center from 8 to 10 p.m. Participants of all skill levels are welcome, and costumes are encouraged, but they must be safe and allow for harness use. The event will feature Halloween-themed T-shirts, stickers, treats and prizes. This is a registration-only event, with registration closing on Wednesday.
Watch The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) with WUD Film at Memorial Union from 8 to 10:30 p.m. with open caption screening. Audience participation and costumes are encouraged. The screening will feature a live shadow cast, meaning actors from Madison’s own Velvet Darkness will perform over the movie in true Rocky Horror fashion.
Head to Dejope Residence Hall from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. for a Halloween bonfire and s'mores hosted by Badger Recovery. Costumes are welcome, and there will be free s’mores and spooky stories at this substance-free event welcome to all students, including those “in recovery, seeking recovery and recovery allies”.
Later, a Halloween Bash with “hauntingly good” music, themed drinks, a costume contest and games will be hosted in the Lake Mendota room at Dejope Residence Hall from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m.
Saturday, Nov. 1
Celebrate the end of Halloween with a Closespin Wreath workshop at Gordon Dining & Event Center from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m. Design and decorate your own clothespin wreath.
