A suspect attempted an aggravated assault with a weapon early Sunday morning in the pedestrian tunnel on East Campus Mall, prompting an ongoing investigation by the City of Madison Police Department.
The incident was reported at 12:48 a.m. on April 27 and is believed to have taken place around 12:41 a.m., according to a campus-wide email sent out on April 30. Authorities say there is no known connection between the suspect and the victims.
Recommended precautions include walking in groups using well-lit routes, remaining aware of surroundings and calling 911 to report any suspicious activity. Individuals who feel unsafe walking alone are encouraged to seek a safe place or call for a ride.
The University of Wisconsin-Madison Police Department also advises to comply without resistance to avoid harm if someone demands your property.
