Madison Public Library’s X account hacked

The City of Madison alerted users of social platform X Monday to disregard recent messaging from the public library’s account due to recent hacking.

The City of Madison alerted X users Monday that the Madison Public Library’s account was hacked on Jan. 28.

In a post on the social media site formerly known as Twitter, the city’s official account said the Madison Public Library’s account was hacked and messaging since Jan. 28 “does not reflect library views or advice.”

Library staff are working to regain access to the account, according to the post. As of Monday morning, the account did not appear in searches.

The city is asking people to consider unfollowing the account and checking back at a later date for updates.

The hacking comes after Dane County Executive Joe Parisi requested all county departments “phase out” use of X by Jan. 1, 2024 due to increased hate speech on the platform.
