The University of Wisconsin-Madison said a rock was thrown on State Street at UW-Madison students who attended a vigil for Israel on Tuesday, one month since Hamas launched deadly terrorist attacks against Israel.
The students reported a rock was thrown at them from a State Street building after they attended Tuesday's vigil. They said they were also harassed with “profane and hateful language.”
“That our students had to confront such hateful acts is absolutely unacceptable,” UW-Madison Chancellor Jennifer Mnookin said in the release. “Antisemitism has no place in our community. We will not tolerate violence of any kind, and we appreciate that the Madison Police Department is responding to this incident with appropriate seriousness.”
The university says it’s connecting with Jewish community leaders to discuss the incident and identity-based violence.
The release also said UWPD and MPD are increasing patrols around Langdon Street.
A representative for the Madison Police Department was not immediately available for comment.
