Opinion: I am being censored for not wanting to learn

“My opinions are grounded in facts and logic, not books.”

All articles featured in The Beet are creative, satirical and/or entirely fictional pieces. They are fully intended as such and should not be taken seriously as news.

The pervasiveness of cancel culture on campus is astounding. It seems every course I take and every class I attend insists on challenging my worldview.

What gives the teacher the right to make me read things? My understanding of how things work has always earned me praise. All my life, I've only been told how smart I am — now I'm expected to consider new information? These professors think they know so much but I can guarantee that none of them have even once been told how special they are by my mom.

If that's not enough, my grade entirely depends on if they think my papers conform to the readings they assign. My opinions are grounded in facts and logic, not books.

In addition to being attacked for my politics, my professors have asked me multiple times to “proofread” my papers before submitting them. You would think such “esteemed” academics would know the proof is right there.

These professors think they’re so smart and important. Who do they think they are to lecture me? I clearly know more than them. If they’d shut up about how “this is what they’ve researched for the past 30 years,” they’d realize I’m right.

As someone who grew up in a Badger household, I can’t help but feel heartbreak looking at what this school has become. My father, Nicholas Gordon Mosse Sewell Natatorium III, was so proud when I was accepted to Wisconsin. He would be embarrassed to hear I received side-eye after simply voicing my opinion — especially when I didn’t say the n-word this time.

If that’s not enough, campus censorship is to such a degree that I am at risk of being canceled from the school. I came to college to have my worldview applauded. Yet day after day, I am persecuted for refusing to conform to the university’s liberal politics. Professors continue to use their power to pressure me to abandon my beliefs by reading the course material and attending lectures.

But I will persevere. I, with the support of non-partisan censorship advocacy group Anti-woke Warriors, will travel from campus to campus to tell the story of how I was censored, persecuted and canceled for my beliefs. I have also been given a column in The New York Times, where I intend to speak truth to power about the real issues in America — something academia knows nothing about.
