Harry Styles is up for three awards tonight, including 'Best Music Video' and 'Best Pop Vocal Album,' this is his first time ever being nominated.

The Daily Cardinal staff weighs in on potential winners ahead of the Grammy Awards

Ahead of the Grammy's, The Daily Cardinal Staff has voted on who they think should take home some of the night's biggest awards. Read below to find out what our staff is thinking.

Record of the Year:

It's a tie! DC staff are torn between Everything I Wanted by Billie Eilish and Rockstar by Da Baby featuring Roddy Ricch. Eilish won five Grammy awards in 2020 and Ricch is up for six this year.

Album of the Year:

Folkore by Taylor Swift is set to take home Album of the Year, according to the Cardinal staff. Swift has been nominated for 41 awards throughout her career and has won ten.

Song of the Year:

Out of those that voted, the Cardinal staff sure are Swifties! "Cardigan" by Taylor Swift is the fan favorite tonight, as she's up against Beyoncé, Post Malone and Dua Lipa in what is often considered a highly competitive category.

Best New Artist:

All hail Phoebe Bridgers! The Cardinal staff has slotted Bridgers to win the Best New Artist category this year. She's also nominated for three other categories tonight for her sophomore album "Punisher." Elton John also had something to say about this.

Best Pop Solo Performance:

Finally getting the justice he deserves, Harry Styles' "Watermelon Sugar" is the Cardinal's pick for Best Pop Solo Performance. This is his first nomination and yes, you did read that correctly.

Best Pop Duo/Group Performance:

She does it again. Taylor Swift's "Exile" featuring Bon Iver was voted most likely to win Best Pop Duo/Group Performance tonight. So true, Cardinal staff, it's an emo poppy bop we all didn't know we needed, so true.

Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album:

It's a tie. American Standard by James Taylor and Unfollow the Rules by Rufus Wainwright are both Cardinal favorites.

Best Pop Vocal Album:

The Harry Styles hive is alive and well at The Daily Cardinal. Fine Line is the favorite tonight for Best Pop Vocal Album. Styles is also set to open the Grammy's so if you don't want to watch it all, just know the first five minutes should be more than enough.

Best Dance Recording:

This one split three ways for the Cardinal staff. "My High" by Disclosure featuring Aminé & Slowthai, "On My Mind" by Diplo & SIDEPIECE and "10%" by Kaytranada featuring Kali Uchis are Cardinal favorites. Might be a stronger winner if we had the chance to go out and dance in the past year ... so sad.

Best Dance/Electronic Album:

Energy by Disclosure is the Cardinal pick for Best Dance/Electronic Album. Disclosure is up for two awards tonight and have been nominated a total of seven times over the course of their career.

Best Rock Performance:

"Kyoto" by Phoebe Bridgers is the Cardinal favorite for Best Rock Performance. It's also cool to note that all nominees in this category this year are women! Let's give it up for that.

Best Rock Album

The New Abnormal by the Strokes should win Best Rock Album, if you ask the Cardinal. This is their first nomination over the course of their career. I'm sorry ... what? Sounds a little suspect to me so here's to hoping they pull through tonight. Shoutout Brooklyn.

Best R&B Song

"Do It" by Chloe X Halle is the Cardinal pick for Best R&B Song. The Georgia-sister duo have had two previous nominations in 2019 and are up for three awards tonight.

Best Rap Performance

'Savage' by Megan Thee Stallion featuring Beyonce is the Cardinal choice for Best Rap Performance. She's up for four awards tonight, including Best New Artist. We love her.

Best Country Song

Maren Morris' 'Bones' is the Cardinal pick for Best Country Song. She has been nominated for 11 awards throughout her career and has won once.

Best Musical Theater Album

Little shop ... little shop of horrors! The Cardinal is choosing Little Shop of Horrors by the New off-Broadway Cast to win the Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album. Jonathan Groff is one of the many notable voices on the soundtrack.

Snubs

The Cardinal staff recognizes certain snubs this year in nominations. Artists like The Weeknd, Rina Sawayama & Travis Scott were a few of the many artists that will go unrecognized this year.

Well, it's sure going to be a night at the Grammy's. Check back this week to see how the Cardinal did with their predictions. Does the Cardinal have taste? We shall see. Whether or not award shows hold any real value is a highly debated topic and one we can all see both sides to. We know music can be just as epic without a Grammy to prove it. On that note, best of luck to the nominees!
