College 101: 3 Things to Think About Before Buying a Term Paper

I'm thinking about buying a term paper. I've been under a ton of stress lately, and while I've worked really hard to keep my grades up and focus on improving my essays, I just don't feel like I have time to write this one and do the kind of work I actually have do on it. So I'm going to buy it, I think — you know, go on one of those websites where you can buy pre-written ones, or whatever.

I know that some people won't like that, but I really don't want a lecture here, please. What I do want is some advice. I don't want to get in trouble or get a bad grade (I can get my own bad grades, thank you very much). Is there a safe way to do this? Please help!

The decision to buy a term paper online couldn't have been an easy one for you. As requested, we'll spare you the lecture — and we'll take you at your word that you're working hard in school and plan to use this strategy to buy more time for your studies and continue your pursuit of a quality education. With all of that in mind, here are three things that you need to think about before you go online and buy a term paper.

The risks

We promised not to give you any moral lectures, but we'd be remiss if we didn't discuss the risks that come with purchasing a paper online. Taking someone else's work and passing it off on your own could be a violation of your school's rules, honor code, or other binding and non-binding regulation or contract. Your professor is unlikely to look kindly upon it, and neither are administrators and other authority figures. Quite apart from the question of morality, there's an obvious risk here: If you're caught, you could face disciplinary action and academic consequences. So, if you're dead set on this plan, here's some advice: Don't get caught.

And the best way to not get caught is to be honest with yourself about the risks involved here. In particular, you should consider the structures that your college or university has in place for spotting this kind of thing. One thing you'll almost certainly have to reckon with is plagiarism detection.

Avoiding plagiarism

Plagiarism is sure to get you in trouble. And in many academic settings, professors and teachers use software to help them catch plagiarism. The software simply runs your paper against a bunch of publicly available writing, including books and other sources you might have been likely to use in your research. In an instant, these programs can flag copycats.

This matters because not all the websites you could buy your term paper from are created equal. Some may sell the same paper multiple times, increasing the risk of yours getting picked up as a duplicate of someone else's. And poor writers employed by less reputable writing companies may get lazy and steal passages from source texts, which will get you in trouble even if your teacher believes you were the one behind the paper itself.

Quality matters

Another way of saying this is to say that quality matters: the good writers who work for better companies will offer you an original, custom-written product that won't get picked up by plagiarism checks. Plus, good writers will get you a better grade. Never underestimate just how bad the writers at the cheaper services can be — they may save you some time, but there's a very good chance that they won't help your grade!

Because higher-quality websites you could turn to for buying a term paper will write your new term paper for you as a custom job, you can be sure that the subject of the paper will match the topic you were supposed to write about. With low-quality or pre-written papers, you may end up with a more approximate fit — and that's a big red flag for savvy professors.

If you choose to go this route, be smart. When buying a term paper online, choose a quality company and pay a reasonable amount for a custom-written, plagiarism-free paper from a qualified writer. Then get back in there and use this as a learning experience as you focus on the next chapter of your studies.
