Women's Tennis: Wisconsin Badgers hope to end losing streak, earn first Big Ten win

Wisconsin (0-7 Big Ten, 4-12 overall) looks to end the home season on a positive note by getting their first conference win of the season. Friday, the Badgers host the Indiana Hoosiers (2-5, 11-11), and Sunday, they will face the Purdue Boilermakers (0-7, 5-13).

The Badgers have struggled, especially in Big Ten play, as they have a seven-game losing streak since the conference season started after facing some of the top-ranked teams in the conference.

The two seniors for Wisconsin will hope to be at their best to help Wisconsin get a win this weekend. Maria Avgerinos and Sydney Rider both have four wins on the season, and will have to add more for the Badgers to succeed this weekend.

The Badgers will also look for the freshman class to continue to step up. The trio of Michelle Linden, Christina Zordani and Melissa Pick have played solidly in the middle of the lineup, with Pick impressing the most. The Albuquerque, N.M., native has won three matches in Big Ten play and even her losses have been very close.

Wisconsin will also have to improve in their doubles matches. Over the season, the Badgers have a .380 win percentage in the doubles matches, and have not won a doubles point during conference play.

The action begins at Nielsen Tennis Stadium Friday at 5 p.m. and continues Sunday at 11 a.m.
