Germany to host Dane County artist for 2017 exhibition

Once again, a Dane County artist will be given the exciting opportunity to exhibit their work overseas.

Dane’s sister county of Kassel, Germany, invited one local artist to spend two weeks there in August and participate in an art exhibition, according to a Dane County press release.

The artist will take part in a two-week-long arts camp called the “EUARCA+,” which Kassel organizes each year for its partner regions. The theme of the 2017 camp is “On The Run.”

This year marks the fourth “EUARCA+” that a Dane County artist will participate in; the first was in 2012. The artist will also have the chance to visit documenta 14, a well-known modern art exhibition held in Kassel.

Dane County Supervisor Chuck Erickson, the chair of the Kassel-Dane Sister County Task Force, said the trip is an “outstanding opportunity” for local artists.

“Any culture is best represented in its arts, so a cultural exchange based on the arts just makes perfect sense,” Erickson said in the release.

Artists who want to be considered for the opportunity have until Feb. 20 to submit their applications. The Dane County Commission on Cultural Affairs will choose the winner following peer review.

Dane County and Kassel have been sister counties since 2007, and have participated in a number of cultural exchanges in the past 10 years.
