Woman linked to multiple robberies in Madison area

Madison Police Department officers and detectives are linking a 38-year-old woman to a series of robberies in the Madison area over the past few days, according to Madison Police Department incident reports.

Sunday evening the woman, armed with a handgun, allegedly robbed the Pan & Pan bakery on East Washington Avenue. She left the bakery shortly after 7 p.m. with cash from the register, according to the reports. Although a police dog was able to track a scent up to apartments on Mayfair Avenue, no suspect was spotted.

The same woman is believed to have aided a gunman Monday afternoon when a Best Western on Annamark Drive was robbed. At 12:43 p.m. the woman was seen leaving the front desk with money. At 1:15 p.m. the woman armed with a handgun robbed the Chang Jiang restaurant on Commercial Avenue, according to the reports. The woman reportedly ran out of the restaurant into a minivan, where an armed getaway driver pointed a gun at an employee chasing the suspect. According to an MPD sergeant on scene, the woman also pointed a gun at the employee.

At around 6:15 p.m. Monday MPD’s Violent Crimes Unit, with the help of East District officers, took the woman into custody.

“The team developed information that the suspect might be inside a residence on Pinecrest Drive Surveillance was established, and she was taken into custody—without incident—after walking out of the home,” said MPD Public Information Officer Joel DeSpain.

The woman was found with both a handgun and a BB gun concealed within a large white purse, according to the reports. The suspect is now in custody on a probation hold as investigations continue.
