UHS advises students on Zika virus

University Health Services issued a warning to international travelers because of the Zika virus, which was recently called a global health emergency by the World Health Organization.

The virus has spread rapidly to more than 20 countries since it was detected in Brazil in May 2015. The Zika virus does not normally affect people who contract it, but it is linked to microcephaly, a condition that causes babies to be born with abnormally small heads.

UHS advises that students who are traveling internationally, especially to countries in the southern hemisphere, should visit a travel clinic six weeks before their trip, according to a university release.
