Men's golf: Wisconsin places sixth in Badger Invitational

The men’s golf team placed sixth while hosting the Badger Invitational this Sunday-Tuesday, a three-day event consisting of 54 holes. The Badgers competed against twelve other teams.

The Badgers finished the first day of competition in seventh place. However, there were some bright spots for the team on the first day. Senior Jack Watson was able to tie for second place on the day by shooting two under par. Edgewood’s freshman Johnny Decker was able to tie for 17th place with a one over par performance in his first college competition. There were also two other Badgers who were able to place in the top 25 after day one. The team in first place after the day was Sam Houston State and the leader for the individuals was Patrick Sanchez of Marquette, who was able to shoot a four under par.

The Badgers were looking to move up from their seventh-place spot at the start of the second day of competition. The leading score for the Badgers came from senior Thomas O’Bryan, shooting a two over par and tying for the No. 10 spot in the tournament. Watson fell from his second-place spot with a five over par, slipping him to a tie for 22nd place. They were the only two Badgers that were placed in the top 25 through the second day. After another day, the Badgers were not able to move up and stayed in seventh place with Sam Houston State retaining its lead.

On the final day of competition the Badgers were able to move up one spot and finish in sixth place out of 13 teams. The leading scorers for the Badgers were again Watson and O’Bryan, who finished tied for seventh place. Leading at the end of all three days of competition, Sam Houston State took home the tournament win.
