Board of Regents talks budget format

The University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents met Thursday to hear proposed changes to UW System’s budget format.

David Miller, UW senior vice president for administration and fiscal affairs, presented to the board a new representation of the System’s budget, which is designed to simplify budget information and show fiscal trends over longer periods of time.

The board will meet Friday to vote on whether to recommend the proposed changes to the state Legislature.

UW System President Raymond Cross stressed the need for transparency and ease of understanding when presenting fiscal policy to the Board of Regents and the public.

“We’re hopeful to increase your confidence in how our finances are managed on a daily basis,” Cross said, addressing the regents.

The board will vote on its annual operating budget in June and its biennial budget request for the state Legislature in August.
