Man beaten by five assailants outside of Cardinal Bar, according to police

A group of five men beat a 24-year-old man from Middleton unconscious in front of the Cardinal Bar early Friday morning, according to a Madison Police Department incident report.

According to the report, witnesses inside the bar at 400 E. Wilson St. saw a black man, approximately 6 feet 3 inches tall, between 250 and 270 pounds, punch the victim in the head.

The victim fell to the ground, appearing to lose consciousness. Witnesses saw four other men join the primary assailant and proceed to punch and kick the victim laying on the ground, according to the report.

Police responded to calls at approximately 2 a.m. after the assailants fled the scene. The intoxicated victim could not provide extensive details on the attack, according to the report. The Middleton man did not sustain serious injuries.
