Wisconsin’s 4th District Court of Appeals ruled Thursday that the pending “John Doe” investigation into Gov. Scott Walker’s recall election will continue.
The initial investigation began in 2012, after multiple counties filed a complaint on the basis that “suggested criminal campaign finance violations may have been committed by residents of Columbia, Dane, Dodge and Iowa counties,” according to the Wisconsin State Journal.
The court also revealed Thursday Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen declined to lead the investigation, directing the district attorneys to request the Government Accountability Board spearhead the investigation. The attorneys decided to launch their own probes.
Members of an unnamed panel challenged the legality of a multi-county probe and also proposed the case be sent directly to Wisconsin Supreme Court.
The ruling Thursday mandated the case stay in the court of appeals and also ruled the multi-county probe was within the law.
