Men's Soccer: Wisconsin's Zadro and Cochran win Big Ten Offensive and Defensive player of the year

Despite an early exit for the Wisconsin men's soccer team in the Big Ten tournament, the Badgers earned the conference's two most prestigious awards for individual players.

Redshirt senior midfielder Tomislav Zadro earned the Big Ten's Offensive Player of the Year award and junior defender AJ Cochran won the conference's Defensive Player of the Year award.

Both players also represent the Badgers (4-3 Big Ten, 13-4-2 overall) on the Big Ten All-Conference team along with senior forward Nick Janus, who was second in the Big Ten in goals with nine.

Wisconsin became the second team in Big Ten history to boast both award winners in the same year. This is also the first time the Badgers have had a winner of either award.

Zadro missed the entirety of last season due to an ACL injury. He also underwent minor surgery and missed three games this season. He had 16 points and led the Big Ten with eight assists.

Cochran started all 19 games for the Wisconsin defense that tallied six shutouts and had a perfect 9-0-0 record at home. He had some success on the offensive end as well. His two goals proved essential for UW's comeback against Indiana to win 4-3.

Sophomore midfielder Drew Conner was voted to the All-Conference second team.

Wisconsin had two freshmen represent the team on the Big Ten's All-Freshman team. Forwards Brian Hail and Nick Jones. Hail scored one goal and appeared in 18 matches this season, while Jones scored two goals and tallied three assists.

Finally, senior goalkeeper Max Jentsch earned the Big Ten's Sportsmanship award. After taking over for redshirt freshman goalkeeper Casey Beyers on Oct. 23, he has a 4-1-1 record and has defeated two ranked Big Ten opponents.

The Selection Show for the NCAA tournament is Monday and the Badgers are looking to have a shot at the national championship for the first time since winning it in 1995.
