Woman punched in face on West Gilman Street

Two men punched a female downtown resident after she ignored their request for directions on the 400 block of West Gilman Street, according to a police report.

The 21-year-old victim suffered swelling to her left eye, Madison Police Department spokesperson Joel DeSpain said, but did not sustain any serious injuries.

According to the report, the two suspects asked the victim for directions to State Street at approximately 12:30 a.m. Tuesday. When the victim ignored the suspects—who DeSpain described in the report as two black males, both 20 years old and wearing dark knit caps—one of them hit her in the face.

The suspects ran away after punching the victim. She fell to the ground, screamed and later a friend took her to the emergency room, the report said.
