Upcoming discussions on campus to focus on higher education

The U.S. Under Secretary of Education will visit campus Tuesday for a discussion on higher education in Wisconsin.

Martha Kanter has served as the under secretary of education since 2009 and focuses on improving the completion rates, quality and affordability of college education, guided by a presidential initiative to strengthen the workforce in the United States, according to the U.S. Department of Education website.

The discussion Tuesday will contextualize the role of postsecondary education in the economic and social development of the U.S.

“Ensuring College Affordability, Quality, and Completion” will take place at noon in the Wisconsin Idea Room of the Education Building.

Thursday, the Bipartisan Issues Group and Students for Education Reform will host a discussion focused on how to improve schools in the U.S.

State Sen. Lena Taylor, D-Milwaukee, and Democrats for Education Reform Wisconsin director Jarett Fields will attend the discussion at 7 p.m. in room 212 of the Educational Sciences building.
