The Student Services Finance Committee heard a budget proposal from University Health Services Thursday, which would provide new health and wellness services to students.
The group proposed a budget of $13,088,266 for fiscal year 2013-’14. If approved, each full-time student will pay around $172 in segregated fees to partially fund the group, according to ASM Press Office Director David Gardner.
The plans to expand the services would also include access to lab tests previously provided through the state.
SSFC Chair Ellie Bruecker said UHS cash reserves would help to offset the 4 percent increase in the budget for the new services.
“I think the areas they’ve identified to expand programming are things that have been demanded by students,” Bruecker said. “I find it extremely commendable that they’re able to do that without asking for more [student] segregated fees.”
SSFC will vote on the UHS budget at its next meeting Monday.
